There is no universal, all encompassing reservoir of information about cars, titles, and histories. Carfax is merely a private enterprise that sells whatever information they can get their hands on at a price they find acceptable. Your EX-CAR could quite explainably be in the hands of a legitimate owner. You should call the police and report the information you have found. If the car is still stolen, they will know what to do. If it is not, they will know that too. |
Haha. this isn't English 1A asshole. Why don't you leave if you don't like my spelling errors.

I ran all my cars and a couple others that I owned in the past. The information was sketchy at best and sometimes not accurate. You have to take it for what it is worth. For example My wifes cars odometer was rolled back before we bought it. (The idiot that did it wasn't smart enough to remove the repair recipts from the glove box that showed milage higher than what was on the odometer.) Car fax was unable to detect the roll back but by looking at the reported milage you might be able to tell things didn't add up. Also some states such as michigan didn't show any milage reports at all. Anyway. I enjoyed the info. |
Easy Money
Does it say you're eligible for the $5000 Clean title guarantee?
If so, but your car back and call CarFax. Easy $5000 ;) |
Similar thing happened to me many years ago--before carfax. In my case, the car was stolen for the stereo (not a real expensive unit by any means), and the guy had a dash vin plate and title from the same make/model. Drilled out the rivets, and glued on the vin tag. Sold the car (it was in the paper a week after it was stolen from me) listed as having a bad trans-- which it didn't. I saw the ad, but never thought it could possible be my car.
Turns out it was, a unsuspecting buyer bought it. I got a BIGTIME runaround from the cops when a friend spotted the car, and called the police. To avoid a 30 paragraph story here, make sure you have them check the VIN stamped into the firewall and confirm it matches the one on the dash. That is what I finally convinced them to do, and the car was recovered. Buyer was out the $700 they paid, but later was able to id the guy when he was caught stealing another car. Sometimes it sucks to have a nice car....:( |
FPrep2ndGenRX7, If the insurance paid you that cars isn't your any more. And If you want it back you should motify the police and the insurance corp. The police so they contact the actual owner ; the insurance, to negociate the purchase of the car from them, like kabooski said.
also, don't do insurance fraud, that is real serious shit. |

I had a motorcycle that the vin # on the frame didn't match the one on the motor and neither matched my title. I am not sure how it made it thru the state inspections. From now on I always check both vin#'s against the title before I take a car home. |

what probably happened is you reported the car stolen to your local police, the police then never filed the stolen vehicle to the DMV. the thieves probably just found out your information and forged a bill of sale.
my suggestion is contact the police that you reported it to and take the information you have back to them so that they can investigate and pickup the person who is now in posession of your stolen vehicle. even though they may not know it was ever stolen they should have some record of who they bought it from so that the real thieves can be found. edit: nm, damn necro post.. |
I'm dealing with this right now lol

You were member 254 Pele, that is pretty old school. I wonder who was #1, maybe Ryan(I think his name was) that used to own the forum.

I joined the RX-7 club in Dec of 1999, as that's when I got my first RX-7 and actually joined the forum. That's reflected by my join date. The forum was hacked in January 2001 and the entire place was deleted. There were no survivors... And no backups. It came back with all new servers and software. (Now without the backdoor vulnerabilities.) As such, most of the earliest dates are gonna be around February 2001. |
Ah I remember hearing about that long ago.
