I just found my stolen car in CARFAX.com
YOu guys know what i just found out?
As i was playing with the CARFAX.com thing (as many of you are :p), out of curiousity, i type in the # of my stolen car a year ago. Guess what happen? The report never show it stolen. Furthermore, the car is registered 2 month after the car was stolen  my question is: How can someone register a car without my title (i still have to title at home) and why didn't the police report show up in DMV and CARFAX???!!!??? What do you guy think i should do? The car is register local, should i report to the police so i can get it back (i should have the police report back then)? What if the buyer didn't know it was a stolen car? will he or she lose their cars? This is too ridiculous...... |
Shit Bro
Its your car. I would get it back. just for the principle. or at least go and talk to whoever has it now and get their story. Do what ya gotta do. Lates Matt22 |
Duh
Of course you should contact the police. DUH.

Call the Po Po's and get your car back. The people that own it now will just have to understand that it was yours to begin with.
|
find out who stole it and break there fuckin legs!
|
Definetly contact the police first. Even though the car is legally yours you need to follow their rules and procedures for recovering the vehicle. Maybe if your lucky the current occupant of your car will have some good mods and a fresh coat of wax waiting for you.
|
This happened to my cousin. His Chevelle was stolen, the theives yanked the motor out, and sold the body. The kid that bought it put in a new motor and went to register it. When it came up stolen, the police confiscated it and gave it back to my cousin.
The only way they could have gotten a tag, is for the car to be older than the cutoff date for the title. Look to be in a long protracted legal battle if it is. First thing, report this to the police - both here and in the town that the car is registered in. Do not contact the people who registered it themselves. You will need a copy of the stolen vehicle report and the title to show the police. |
do NOT go see him on your own. You never know if he's the theif or some unsuspecting rube. If the current driver IS the theif, or a friend, they may want the car enough to do something rash.
Go get the cops and get your car back! Cory Waters |
And THEN break his fuckin legs!

Right now the problem is that i don't have a written report at my hand. All the report has been done through the phone. I know there is a report # assigned, but I don't have that # (i do back then, but lost it since it's over a year). Can I just call in and have them search using my name? What are the chances of me getting the report?
Furthermore, the insurance has already pay for the stolen vehicle since I have the comperhansive insurance on it. So either to get it back or not is not important to me. The thing i concern the most is the safty of my neighborhood. I live near UCLA, which suppose to be a good neighborhood, but the car was stolen IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE!!!!!!!!! I think i will call police to request the report first, then see what happen. thanks for advices though |
Steal it back
Steal it back, do you still have the old keys lying around?
|
who needs keys?:D
|
Did you report it to your insurance company? Did you have comp on the car even? Well don't go see the people that have it registered, if they stole it chances are if you talk to them the car will "disappear" again just so they don't get in trouble. If insurance paid out on this car then they would get the car more than likely. If not and its all yours then go down to the police station and have them look for the report. If you called it in to your insurance co. they might have the police report # on file because that is one of the first questions we ask for.

Yup. By the way. I would be very pissed if I was you. You dont care if you get it back or not. Even thou you had comp stealing is stealing. I would like you to find the guy who did it. Couldnt be to hard. Just back track. Find him then brake his fucking legs. Unless it wasnt an rx7 then your right... fuck it.

I got an AR 15 rifal with a scope. Anyone wanna steal my RX7s? I don't think so!
|
Oh ya
Sheeeeet doo. Ill wake em with my penice.
Did I spell that right. Did I spell right, right. All well fuck it/ its 5 in the morning . going to bed. Sleeeepy |
ok Wait if the insurance co paid you off
right? Then sometime later the car was found the insurance co can get a Title and sell it at auction and it's legit. |
there are two things i can see happeningwith your insurance.
One. you might have to buy it back from your insurance company two. they might not car or might not be notified and if they find out later and tell you it is their's i suggest you just play dumb and say ok. insurance fraud is no fun but dont go see the guy. no use getting your car back if you get shot |

Originally posted by peejay OOoooh, good point. But wouldn't that show up on the carfax report? car stolen / car recovered / etc. ? There is no universal, all encompassing reservoir of information about cars, titles, and histories. Carfax is merely a private enterprise that sells whatever information they can get their hands on at a price they find acceptable. Your EX-CAR could quite explainably be in the hands of a legitimate owner. You should call the police and report the information you have found. If the car is still stolen, they will know what to do. If it is not, they will know that too. |
Haha. this isn't English 1A asshole. Why don't you leave if you don't like my spelling errors.

Originally posted by Ralph Not necessarily. A friend works for Carfax. He says they go around buying, cajoling, or doing whatever else their information procurers are willing to do to get sources of information. It could be that the insurance and law enforcement agencies involved in the various transfers of your EX-CAR do not share information with Carfax. There is no universal, all encompassing reservoir of information about cars, titles, and histories. Carfax is merely a private enterprise that sells whatever information they can get their hands on at a price they find acceptable. Also I agree with Ralph. I ran all my cars and a couple others that I owned in the past. The information was sketchy at best and sometimes not accurate. You have to take it for what it is worth. For example My wifes cars odometer was rolled back before we bought it. (The idiot that did it wasn't smart enough to remove the repair recipts from the glove box that showed milage higher than what was on the odometer.) Car fax was unable to detect the roll back but by looking at the reported milage you might be able to tell things didn't add up. Also some states such as michigan didn't show any milage reports at all. Anyway. I enjoyed the info. |
Easy Money
Does it say you're eligible for the $5000 Clean title guarantee?
If so, but your car back and call CarFax. Easy $5000 ;) |
Similar thing happened to me many years ago--before carfax. In my case, the car was stolen for the stereo (not a real expensive unit by any means), and the guy had a dash vin plate and title from the same make/model. Drilled out the rivets, and glued on the vin tag. Sold the car (it was in the paper a week after it was stolen from me) listed as having a bad trans-- which it didn't. I saw the ad, but never thought it could possible be my car.
Turns out it was, a unsuspecting buyer bought it. I got a BIGTIME runaround from the cops when a friend spotted the car, and called the police. To avoid a 30 paragraph story here, make sure you have them check the VIN stamped into the firewall and confirm it matches the one on the dash. That is what I finally convinced them to do, and the car was recovered. Buyer was out the $700 they paid, but later was able to id the guy when he was caught stealing another car. Sometimes it sucks to have a nice car....:( |
FPrep2ndGenRX7, If the insurance paid you that cars isn't your any more. And If you want it back you should motify the police and the insurance corp. The police so they contact the actual owner ; the insurance, to negociate the purchase of the car from them, like kabooski said.
also, don't do insurance fraud, that is real serious shit. |

I had a motorcycle that the vin # on the frame didn't match the one on the motor and neither matched my title. I am not sure how it made it thru the state inspections. From now on I always check both vin#'s against the title before I take a car home. |

what probably happened is you reported the car stolen to your local police, the police then never filed the stolen vehicle to the DMV. the thieves probably just found out your information and forged a bill of sale.
my suggestion is contact the police that you reported it to and take the information you have back to them so that they can investigate and pickup the person who is now in posession of your stolen vehicle. even though they may not know it was ever stolen they should have some record of who they bought it from so that the real thieves can be found. edit: nm, damn necro post.. |
I'm dealing with this right now lol

You were member 254 Pele, that is pretty old school. I wonder who was #1, maybe Ryan(I think his name was) that used to own the forum.

I joined the RX-7 club in Dec of 1999, as that's when I got my first RX-7 and actually joined the forum. That's reflected by my join date. The forum was hacked in January 2001 and the entire place was deleted. There were no survivors... And no backups. It came back with all new servers and software. (Now without the backdoor vulnerabilities.) As such, most of the earliest dates are gonna be around February 2001. |
Ah I remember hearing about that long ago.
