How to replace the Drivebelts

First I loosened these nuts.

Then once they became loose, I loosened the adjusting bolts. These bolts adjusts the pulleys either up or down.

Now with the Power steering drivebelt and the AC Drivebelt, you can take off those drivebelts by working them under the pulleys.

Then I loosened the alternator bolts, So I can take off the Alternator Drivebelt.

Now you take off the Alternator drivebelt and once you do, work the drivebelt over the fanblades and work it around until it comes off. Same goes for installation.

Now to install. The order of the installation of the drivebelts go:

1st install the new alternator drivebelt by working them through the fanblades.

2nd install the AC drivebelt working them under the pulleys

3rd install the Power Steering P/S drivebelt by working them under the pulleys.

Successful!

Also some of you may have noticed but I didn't install the Air Pump Injection drivebelt because my RX-7 came with a messed up Air Pump Bracket.

I did notice you don't have the air pump on. So I'll say it before someone else does:

Your waterpump may be slipping due to not enough belt contact. I'm sure you already knew that, but someone had to mention it.

Are you replacing the airpump belt? Or you want to take the airpump belt and airpump out?

If you're just replacing the belt, loosen the pivot bolt, loosen the bolt that holds it in position on the bracket, and the airpump will slide down allowing the belt to come off. Those bolts are 12 or 14 mm, IIRC. Then just work the belt between the blades of the clutch fan and put a new one on.

It may be a little to the left. I can't remember it's exact location. Just look at the airpump and loosen the two bolts. You should be able to spot them easily.

Thanks for the information. I have an 88 vert and need to replace all the drive belts, is there a source where I can buy all the belts I need?
My Mazda dealer says some belts are unobtainable! Maybe from him, but the correct length belts must be out there!
Anyone help?
Mike

5 year old thread, doubt it. Replace v-belts is extremely easy and IMO, self explanatory

Since this thread has been dug up and all I'll address this as well. Rock Auto has them all from various manufacturers. I personally use Gates which O'Rielly's sells also. As to changing them look in the links to the FSM in the FAQ section. Pretty staight foreward.

Thanks. Yeah, it wasn't too bad, I just wasn't sure if the fan or shroud had to come off, turns out you can work around them with some finesse. I did look in the FSM, it only gave specs for deflection (which I did use).
