26000 original miles, no power steering, never seen snow. KKB has it listed for $4540 but I know that is way too optimistic for a FC. How much would you pay for it?

IllmicIll 09-19-07 12:25 PM

hold on... pics are coming

imloggedin 09-19-07 12:28 PM

is it a TII/GTU/GXL/SE????? we need more info or pics

dean23 09-19-07 12:29 PM

turbo? mods?

87 t-66 09-19-07 12:29 PM

with 26k original miles even if it is NA and in good shape its worth it. if its a t2 it is worth a lot more

IllmicIll 09-19-07 12:31 PM

i was hoping to pay about $7000. is that too optimistic?

IllmicIll 09-19-07 12:31 PM

no mods. bone stock.

RockLobster 09-19-07 12:33 PM

Looks all original to me. low miles.

People have been paying between 8-12k on ebay for a car like that. (super low mile all original S4 turbo in that condition)

Now before people jump down my throat with (ITS NOT WORTH THAT MUCH NOOB!)

It is worth what people are willing to pay.

Recently a 90TII with 14k original miles, unmodified went for nearly 16k on ebay....

87 t-66 09-19-07 12:36 PM

i would say that car would go for about 8k on ebay

imloggedin 09-19-07 12:36 PM

omg that thing is CLEEEEAN. yes its worth every bit of 4500

IllmicIll 09-19-07 12:42 PM

i wish i can get it for $4500 but i dont even expect that. the guy wants 2x that and i just want to get a resonable price to sart bargaining with.

83/86Rx7 09-19-07 12:46 PM

I paid 4k for my S5 TII, and while the interior is clean... that's just... :mspank: :worship: I got mine with 26k on a Mazda Reman. and zero clear coat. And I still think I got a good deal. If I were you, I'd jump all over that!

I agree, it's IMMACULATE!! WOW

If he really wants some hefty cash for it, do a compression test just to make sure it's actually as young as it looks. Assuming he's taken care of the motor as well as the body/interior, you'd be fine, but despite the evidence that's always a terrible assumption to make.

RTRYPWRD 09-19-07 01:33 PM

Amazingly clean. in Canada they'd go for about 5000 sine it's a s4.. but that shape probably 7 - 8g's

phoenix7 09-19-07 01:43 PM

well let's keep it realistic for a minute.

That car looks amazingly clean for it's age but it's not worth 8K, no matter the mileage. AT MOST I'd pay 5K because it is still an unmolested virgin FC. If you REALLY want it then pay the 8K but I'd walk away if it's more than 5K.

Roen 09-19-07 01:55 PM

I don't know......5k is only good enough for an S5 turbo in normal condition, we're talking about a more than clean, near mint version. That alone will warrant an 8k purchase.

FYI, I once bought a 1988 10th AE with 40k miles original, for 8k.

you are way wrong. ive seen low mileage NA's go for 5k on ebay. just because the most YOU would pay is 5k doesnt mean anything

EuroTrader 09-19-07 02:25 PM

7k tops is what I'd pay for it.

IllmicIll 09-19-07 02:35 PM

yeah... 7k was what I plan on offering. I have a feeling I'll end up payin lil more tho.

Juan 09-19-07 02:45 PM

That car would fetch the sellers asking price here in California right away or at the very least, something very close to his price. I've seen crappy FCs sell for 6k before. The great thing about that TII is that it doesnt have the red interior.

Have you offered the guy $7000?

edit:
Hows the engine?

Thats a beautiful FC. The only thing I'd change would be the steering wheel. I've always hated the 86-87 steering wheels. Everything else is great :bigthumb: I would personally offer him something very close to his asking price but then again, cars prices are inflated here in So. Cal.

Juan 09-19-07 02:51 PM

Show up to the guys house with $7k cash. Maybe waiving the money in his face will give you the longer end of the bargaining stick :dunno:

Wanked_FC 09-19-07 02:53 PM

I paid 6 for mine in 2002, from the original owner, in similar condition, bone stock, with 58k miles. I'd say 7k is fair.

younG_Gunner 09-19-07 03:00 PM

Its worth how much you're willing to pay for it. FYI, that FC is immaculate, and I don't think the owner will budge on the price very much. So EXPECT to pay top dollar if you decide to buy it.

the worst that can happen for you is to make an offer and have him say yes, and I'll tell you why. if you offer and he accepts, you offered too much. make an offer that is realistic yet low, but not insultingly low, and go from there. he may bring his price down, then you've gained some ground. you could make a final offer near what his new offer is, or take it and run. some people will get annoyed if you go much farther than the first bartering round so don't get too aggressive.

Gspec-7 09-19-07 03:06 PM

yo no more than 3500 or i will sale you mine for 10k and you don't have too touch it anymore hooked up already check page 50 on the pic thread gspec 90TII or avatar

ok, so the thread title is: How much would YOU pay" yet my opinion doesn't mean anything because I don't agree with what YOU would pay? :rlaugh: seriously guy, think before you post.

I clearly told him: IF YOU WANT THE CAR THEN PAY THE 8K. I'd walk away if it's more than 5K.

I don't go around telling people they're wrong for over-pricing items because it's worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay to OWN it.

novarx7 09-19-07 04:35 PM

You said 2x 4500, so he's asking 9K... I think 9K is a little high. Looking at the facts, it's an '87 (first year for North America having that "first year cool factor" but also the "first year - has more bugs, and they made a shit ton of them year"), so take $250 off the price for that alone.

Down to $8,750 - it's black. Also can be looked at as good or bad, but you have to look at this car the way the current owner obviously did - as a collector car, so use collector car sense. Black was a very popular color, and they made a lot of them in '87 - it also does not have the more rare polished T2 wheels (minus $250), nor the optional wing (minus $150), nor floor mats (minus $50), I'm pretty sure PS wasn't an option on the '87 T2 but I could be wrong... so now we're down to what $8,300? I'm not gonna run through all the options, but I'm just saying how I would look at it and what I would pay.

I'd honestly say $8300 is the MOST I would pay... take into consideration the area the car is in and how many other FCs there are, does he have all maintenance records and original documentation on the car? The LEAST this guy will probably take is $7300 - and thats a big IF.

If you do buy it, whatever you do - be nice to it... keep it original and clean. If you want a race car, buy another one. I had a friend of mine buy an '87 w/ all the options I mentioned above with 80K on it (was still very clean) and DESTROYED it in less than a year... I hate seeing ricers ruin what is becoming a VERY hard car to find in that condition.

Speer_vert88 09-19-07 05:03 PM

Clean

worth every bit of 7G

Digi7ech 09-19-07 05:10 PM

low mileage original engines are at a point where it's a bad thing.

We all know what happens to rotaries that sit.

I would expect to replace ANY motor from a TII when purchasing it and they say it's original.

The car is damn clean though. That shell is to die for.

what you would pay != what the car is worth. you made 2 statements. one saying how much it was worth and one stating how much you would pay. i was pointing out that you saying it was worth 5k wasn't accurate.

phoenix7 09-19-07 05:30 PM

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

YOU read things that were not there.

I said I WOULD PAY 5K and that it was not WORTH 8K. I never said it was WORTH 5K. Are you sure you're reading my posts??

Strike 2.

BrettLinton7 09-19-07 05:43 PM

yeah about 7 or 8K sounds good. Nice find btw

ilike2eatricers 09-19-07 06:05 PM

too bad it's not an s5 i think it'd go for at least $8k if it was

Boosted11 09-19-07 06:50 PM

Sick deal, buy it before its to late. Thats mint as hell, just make sure time hasnt killed it. Check compression when and if you pick it up.

Yeah, those shitty seatbelts are great... :)

S4 ftw!

IllmicIll 09-19-07 10:44 PM

i asked the seller if he got all the paperwork and if he has done compression check. he hasnt got back to me yet. im sure he's driven it every year to keep it runnin. i would never rice out my car but i dont think i can keep anything stock. i ll do things like nardi wheel, c's short shifter, coilovers, strut bar, ss brake lines, cross drilled rotors, powdercoat calipers, some nice tuner wheels, cat back, etc.

mike_merryguy 09-19-07 11:10 PM

i would show him blue book, then let it go up from there, obviously he is considering it as a collectible, but guess what, its not even classic yet, thats an ohio car, i can tell from the plates (which you can still kinda see in the bumper reflection) being an ohio car though, thats not good, even though its never seen snow, i would get under that thing and check EVERYTHING, check places that are hard to find and would be hard to 'hide' i bet you can find some rust,
who ever asked if it was turbo, smack yourself... it looks like a high end model though, has security, power windows and mirrors, no PS though? that is strange, sure they didn't just remove the pump?
26000 WOW, i thought mine was low at 60K but with those low miles, it has sat ALOT, mine was driven like once a month minium and got 60k, thats low 250 miles a month, your guys is hitting 108 a month, thats not even a full tank...
buy a compression checker and do that yourself, he shouldn't mind if he really wants to sell, and if he can't show proof of fluids, just remember those could be 20 years old too, that some ca$h there to do a full fluid change, not to mention the labor charge, never tell him you can do it yourself, you can make the price drop better, good luck

Dcrasta 09-19-07 11:43 PM

Man snatch that car up before I do. Its worth the asking price. Image, no hacked up harnesses, no idiot mods, pure hotness. Black with gray cloth interior? Man I wish I had a chance to buy that car... People argue about the prices being so expensive, by the time you get your hands on the average FC and get it back to 'good' condition, you will be out of at least 5-6 grand . The paint alone on that car is worth 2-3 grand. The Interior condition is worth at least 1-2 grand. The unmolested engine/wiring is likely worth another grand. Rotaries that sit is not the problem, when U decide to start driving it you have to bring it back correctly. Some MMO, a little love and maintainence, and you are back in there.

Its like marrying the right woman, When its good you know, and you dont need your friends approval.

blwn rtr 89' 09-20-07 12:17 AM

how much?

my left nut, and if thats 2 hard 2 push, my right kidney, but i stop there:fingersx:

but for real, if the compressions good, take the kidney, i only need one, and can get drunk quicker, and stay drunk longer.

kill 3 birds with one stone:D

walken 09-20-07 06:18 AM

it was like $27K in 87 and with only 26,000 miles it is like buying an 04/5 used car off a lot. that's going to run around 16K at the lowest for a sports car.

It is definately worth anywhere from $10-13K

if I had the money I'd see if he'd take 7 and throw it on ebay.

IllmicIll 09-20-07 11:33 AM

"The engine runs good. I have not done any compression tests on it. We take it out once a month for a ride in the summer. I do not have any maintenance records. The vehicle was my wife's father's car. He passed away 2 years ago and it was given to my wife by him before he passed away. As you can see he did not drive it often or in winter."

IllmicIll 09-20-07 11:43 AM

can somebody help me locate a good how to guide on compression test? im searching atm but havent found a good one yet.

cpubugs 09-20-07 12:18 PM

Very clean. Very nice.. I would have to agree with Pheonix though 7 or 8 k is a bit high. Especially when I am starting to see some 93's for under 10k. The whole thing is what is it worth to you. If they aren't in a hurry to sell or even care if they sell it then you can bet they will hold out for top dollar. What we would want to pay for it and what it is actually worth to the person selling it may be on two different levels. I personally think I would talk the guy in to keeping it if he wants that much for it. It's really a nice ride but I don't see him getting that much for it.

DREYKO 09-20-07 02:44 PM

my friend mike payed 2900 for a 88 black t2, in mint condition, repainted the year before by a reputable shop, 90k tho , but factory cd player glass moonroof, floor mats were there too abs everything, perfect engine bay the whole 9 yards, no dings or scratches.
but thats some kinda crazy luck and some mafia connections there for you...

IllmicIll 09-21-07 11:12 PM

ok... so where is the FAQ section? I thought it was the FAQ right under RX7.com logo and when i searched for stuff i didnt get anything. help?
