How much pwr do we lose on during these HOT ASS DAYS??
My car runs like garbage like right now when its 90+ out and sticky.
Just venting..anyone else get this? |
Have the FULL cold air intake, cold air box, & cone filter will help with that.
Rotaries seem to have more low end torque on colder days, but the topend HP doesn't seem to be affected. |

i agree on that.
i have a cone filter, but i deffinally have to construct a cold air box. i have seen the how-to's on making the cold air box, has anyone done it with sheet metal? |
You think 90 with humidity is bad. Try driving your car in Arizona with almost no humidity and 100+ temps. It runs much hotter cause of no humidity. I just put a new Thermostat in and I'm running at about 200-210 now.

Digi7ech,
I though mazda installed e-fans one rotaries sold in the hotter states? Have you considered & coolant flush :D Seriously I was runing 220 before I did that in GA's heat. |
just be bloody happy. its friggin cold and freezing over here. i will trade some cold weather for some hot!!! but damn the car runs good
|
In that respect I am glad I live in mild Washington state.
Nothing like starting my car up on a 50 degree night. Much more power than when it is 90 degrees out. |
i live in ny, so i get the best of both climates.
in the winter i get awsome boost. were in a little heat wave now, it sucks |
here in central PA, just about every day is 90/95 and 85-95% humidity.. i hate this state.
|
tell me about it ... about 3 or 4 o clock in florida it sucks.... i feel like im killing my car.. come 7 am when i just start it up.. it feels great!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant explain the feeling! and then at 9 pm too... the air fuel gauge.. shows slighty leaner also.. i guess the intake sucks more air anywayz at colder temps outside
|
How much power do you lose on hot ass days??
A general rule of thumb is 1% for every 10 degrees fahrentheit(sp?) Well atleast thats the truth for piston engines |
Good question. Anybody?
|
It's actually 1% hp loss for every 11 degree increase in intake air temperature. Most cars are rated at a nominal of 65 degrees, if I remember correctly.
|
but where is that loss relevent from? 0º? it doesnt mean anything enless theres a temp in which engines run best at.

This is one area where a good front-mount intercooler makes a big difference. The stock IC is REALLY bad - you guys just don't know how hot that sucker gets, and how nice and cold a good front-mount will get the air. Makes the car run like it's cold out all the time :). On cold air intakes, IMHO the best route to take is to shield the cone off from the hot engine compartment air, and provide a duct to supply fresh air from the front of the car. Some of the more radical designs end up just being a royal pain in the butt to install and remove, and you really don't gain as much as you'd think. A basic shield will get you all you really need. Speaking of Heat
I was driving my AE Turbo through the desert between LA and Vegas. Probably mid 90's outside. I was driving pretty hard and noticed my temp guage go to middle and just a hair above. I let off immediately and it cooled off. I know i need some real temp guages, but anyone think damage might have been done to the engine or know of something i should check because of that?

I know I can tell a huge difference in my talon or my miata. I love those cool fall/spring nights feels like an extra 15hp.. Its been in the 90's here and they both feel like someone stuck a sock in the intake @.@

In the winter, unless I'm REALLY pushing it then my temp stays at 1/4. Michael |
Sometimes on hotter days (and yes it does get hot in WI) I try to not to drive to much, and if I do I dont push her to hard. But then when I the sun goes down I take her out to play :D
