how much premix do i use?

i am blocking off my OMP today and i'm just wondering how much premix i am supposed to use in a full tank of gas (18 gallons for s5's)

i thought it was supposed to be a 100:1 ration which would be around 20oz? but i'm not really sure. someome please inform me so i dont break my new engine :)

WAYNE88N/A 06-26-04 10:37 AM

1.25 onces per gal is close to the 100:1 ratio, and works well...

GUITARJUNKIE28 06-26-04 10:40 AM

is an s5 tank 18 gallons? my s4 is only like 15ish.

most of the people i know use 8-10 oz in theirs..
i've seen a few of these motors taken apart and they look just fine as far as wear goes--nothing out of the ordinary.

jacobcartmill 06-26-04 10:54 AM

yeah the s4 tanks are 16 gallons and the s5 tanks are 18. fd tanks are 19

jacobcartmill 06-26-04 10:56 AM

time to blockoff and run premix and 15w50 mobil1 full synthetic baby!

where is a good place to buy the tcw3 premix? i dont remember seeing it last time i went to autozone. maybe pepboys?

K-Mart. Pennzoil 2 stroke "outdoors" oil is TCW-3 certified. And i got mine for 6.99 a gallon.

wallmart... cheapest place I have found for the Gallon size of premix.

Carry a couple of 16 oz bottles of premix all ready to go. Each gas tank full/fill dump in one and you are set.

andrew lohaus 06-26-04 11:46 AM

yeah ive been using the wal-mart brand tcw3 for the past few months and you cant beat the price. however, i think it may slowly scumm the injectors, so make sure to run a bottle of techron AT LEAST every 3000 miles.

ddub 06-26-04 11:50 AM

How are you blocking your MOP off in an s5?

jacobcartmill 06-26-04 12:22 PM

i got a k2rd blockoff plate set for my car, so the s5TII omp blockoff plate. and i'll have to leave the omp electrically plugged into the wiring harness and strapped down behind my bumper. (thats the plan anyways)

i'll just leave the omp plugged in electrically and ziptie it down somewhere in my engine bay.

jacobcartmill 06-26-04 12:24 PM

also, about the premix. i just got a 16oz bottle of "costal" tcw3 premix and put it in my tank. i've heard bad things about costal, do any of you all use their premix? i'll go get the walmart brand here soon, i just had to have 16oz's of it to put it my first tank.

mark you say they have a 1gallon jug of it? sounds good.

GUITARJUNKIE28 06-26-04 12:27 PM

why not just get that sump thingy from rotary aviation and have a bottle of premix oil in the engine compartment--that way it'll still be injecting the right amount at the right time.

i think they're less than 100bux even with shipping.

Yeah, I think I paid $5.99 for the last gallon that I bought.

Heck even the little 16oz ones are only like a $1.20

I found I got about a 1 to 2 mpg increase using .75 to 1 oz per gal, with my reduced flow MOP (S4 MOP adjusted to only inject at high throttle positions).

What have you heard about coastal? I have used it without any issues. I also find that their 20W-50 oil does not thin out as fast as some of the other more expensive brands.

sorry to be a semi-noob jackass, but where is the OMP, I always thought it was under the intake plentum? but now people are talking leaving it plugged in and under the bumper??? please help my confusion (I am also on 750mg vicodin right now, so put it in semi-lemans terms for me please)

it is actually MOP (Metering Oil Pump).

The MOP is located at the front bottom rightside of the motor.

On Pre- 89 models the MOP is mechanically driven, but on the 89 and later, the MOP is electronicly driven. If you unplug an electronicly driven one, the ECU will report an error code (hench the strapping a 89+ MOP to something under the hood, so that the ECU thinks it is still there, even though it is no longer hooked up to the engine).

jacobcartmill 06-26-04 03:38 PM

hey mark. my ecu is going into limp mode now that i have taken the mop and position sensor off (but both still plugged in) and strapped them down in the engine bay... whats the deal?

Icemark 06-26-04 03:41 PM

probably the MOP is gummed up or something... and that is not the TPS when you say the position sensor right??? You mean the MOP position sensor right???

jacobcartmill 06-26-04 03:42 PM

its not turning when i have the car idling. should it be?

Ni5mo180SX 06-26-04 05:12 PM

I use 1oz/gallon.

I like the Motul brand of premix.

Steel 06-26-04 07:14 PM

Icemark: you mentioned taht you have the MOP set to kick in only at high speeds. Is there any way to have it kick in only during deceleration? I figure that would be a bigger problem since there is no air/fuel being used when deceleration, and that's the only shortfall i see of using premix.

Icemark 06-26-04 07:23 PM

There is no load at lift throttle, so you only need absolutly minimal lubrication injection.

Mazda does not even inject oil at lift throttle

Steel 06-26-04 07:32 PM

REally? that's new to me. I thought that the MOP injected even at lift throttle, albeit only a little bit.

nope... not even when starting (unless you hold the accell pedal down).

andrew lohaus 06-26-04 08:05 PM

dont s5's inject during lift throttle? or no?
