How do I tell if my engine is Turbo or NA?

I just got hooked up with a Free 89 13b and I think it might be turbo. I have a 86 rx7 and the engine in it has many differences from the engine I just picked up. Can any one tell me what to look for or a good website that will list pics of different year 13b engines.

pop the hood and on the left hand side look for the turbo. you wont be able to miss it.

Juiceh 10-03-05 11:20 PM

is there an intercooler on top of it and a round thingy hanging off one side?

fc3sfreek 10-03-05 11:22 PM

yea 89's and 86's look diffrent because they have diffrent intake manifolds, the turbo one will have a intercooler on top that says "turbo" on it

SpiffyD 10-04-05 12:03 AM

well mostly the hood scoop gives the whole thing away if its stock no hood scoop = N/A with a hood scoop = FI either that or you pop the hood up n look at the top n a small intercooler should be there that has in red lettering 13b turbo intercooled. hope its the turboed version so much funner ;)

does your car move when you floor it?

gingenhagen 10-04-05 12:26 AM

Does your engine look like that? Notice how it says "13b intercooled turbo II"

maybe he just recieved a short block without any accesories. if that is the case i could not tell u but i am sure someone around here can.

Stanello 10-04-05 01:27 AM

If it is the shortblock, see if it has any diffusers in the exasut ports.

Diffusers = N/A
No Diffusers = Turbo

That is considering that no-one has ground out the diffusers or swapped in turbo exaust sleeves.

Also see if it has a knock sensor. It should be on the front rotor housing, above the spark plugs IIRC

IF you only have the short block:
6 intake ports = n/a
4 intake ports = turbo

Thread cleaned up of the pointless post, though most of what's left is still pointless.

If you don't have something useful to say, don't say anything. If you don't read the entire first post, THUS MISSING SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION, don't post!

Thanks :)
