Holy factory sparkplugs batman!

So I decided to change my plugs, since I got the car in april, and had put 6,000 miles on it since then, the plugs could use a change.

Well, All I had time to do was replace the rear rotor before it got dark, front rotor comes tomorrow...here's what the ones coming out looked like.

The electrode was completly worn and deformed on the Leading, and the trailing electrode had defomality on it as well. Both were heavily coated in carbon.

mine was like that too when I first got my car. I couldn't believe my eyes. They guys said the spark plug were original and never were changed. Mine is an 88 and I got it about 4 years ago. 18 year old spark plugs?

Tyblat 10-22-06 06:38 PM

The sheer fact that they were still working suprised me. in the last pic you can kinda see it, the electrode is worn so bad theres barely any of it left.

Edit: Mines an 87 GXL, so 19 year old plugs =/

perhaps you should lay the sparkplugs on the floor and take the picture, because all I see is a blurry out of focus image of a hand holding something

Tyblat 10-22-06 06:43 PM

Tried many times..the camera just sucks =( I'll try to get some more pics tomorrow.

Well I think we can say. Why change spark plugs? Let them run till they fall apart :)

The lamp and carpet sure came out nicely though. :)

plugs on my saab were much worse, i couldnt believe that the car even ran, and they were nice, 4 electrode platnum plugs

Tyblat 10-22-06 07:16 PM

Carpet/lamp didnt come out well at all, the coloration is off horribly. Anyway, Gonna pull the other two tomorrow...lets see how that fares.

I've got the same thing. I just did a tune up on my recently-purchased 87 n/a today, and found that I had the same corrosion.

Anyone else have rust on the other end of their plugs? 'cuz I did

Friscorice88 10-22-06 08:44 PM

so.. new plugs = easier start-up?

Tyblat 10-22-06 09:09 PM

I only did the rear rotor because it was getting dark, front rotor starts tomorrow. But it seemed to be more rev happy, not as sluggish. Will provide more info tomorrow. Starting was easy.

yummy sparkplugs, were you having any idle problems?

CyborgRyu 10-22-06 09:42 PM

beat this

I don't really see what we are accomplishing by proving how bad our previous owners treated our cars =\

Tyblat 10-23-06 12:04 AM

If my camera would be more kind towards focusing, I'd prolly have a very close competitior. Just doing the rear rotor alone makes it more happy. Front one tomorrow...Oh boy, clearning the PS pump with the wrench is going to be interesting at that.

Friscorice88 10-23-06 06:52 PM
