Help!!! Tips needed on automatic install..

I am trying to put a auto back into a GXL. We pulled the other auto because it was junk.

My question is: is there any trick to gettting the auto installed?

I can get the shaft into the converter, but thats as far as it will go, being the top of the trans is catching on the firewall.

I have removed every little part, and mount off the trans, nothing is working.

Do you have to turn the trans a little sideways to get it up in there?

Thanks.

wow nobody knows here...crazy...

well this is what you have to do, you have to loosen the motor mount bolts, and jack the front of the engine up, this gives plenty of room and gives the correct angle, being when the trans was connected to the engine it pulls it down from weight of itself.

no here is the shittiest part, after I got the trans in, I was putting the nut on the stud up by the intake manifold, while I was tighting the nut, the belt housing cracked right in half! this sucks...

wow.... I never did that with my s5 when I swapped the auto for another auto. I used 6 jackstands and two jacks to jack the transmission in place. Bolted up the bellhousing and then the mount. Bolted up the driveshaft and rebolted the torque converter. Misc other things and that was about it. Never touched the motor mounts.

BTW: My bell housing is cracked along hte bottom half. I used about 1/2 tube of jb weld and its harder than hell. Its not too easy to weld the bell housing because the alluminium (sp) will crack or burn away. JB weld fixed my problem and the bell housing is pretty freaking sturdy. Outside the fact that the transmission only lasted about 2 months before the stockport engine ate second gear.

Goodluck. If you can reach it, jack up your car, put it on jackstands, than put a board on the jack, jack up the jack to where its supporting the transmission (if you jack it so far that the engine changes lateral angle (tilts towards the front of the car) than you jacked too far.) Do jack it so that it supports only the transmission-- so as to remove all or most pressure from the bell housing and than JB WELD. let it sit for about 24 hours and hope it holds.

goodluck
