Help, lighting problem

Ok so my tail lamps work but when I step on the brakes they don't light up brighter to show that I'm braking which was noted from a friend who almost rear ended me. I was wondering what could be wrong with them. I checked all my bulbs and they seem to be alright, checked fuses they all seem fine.

Also My headlights don't work, both regular and high beams. My interior lights such as my dash still light up and the headlights pop up but they don't light. When I put it on high beams when they're closed they light up for about a second or two as the headlights are comming up and then the lights just go off when the headlights are fully open. Do I need a new light switch or is it the wiring, or could it be somthing else? Any help would be greatly appeciated.

Oh yeah this is for a base 86 NA

Is there a chance that the headlights are shorted out somewhere. Because last night when I was at the gas station checking the fuses and such the high beams just all of a sudden came on out of no here (the switch was on the highbeam setting b/c the regular lights don't work for some reason). I then checked to see if they would work again so I turned my lights off and tried to turn them back on but nothing. Also I was wondering if this was normal, when i turn the switch to the regular light setting the hadlights don't pop up, they stay in the flash to pass lights. I then have to use the other **** to bring them up.

Oh yeah I just remember this too, when the highbeam indicator on the dash is lit up the lights don't work, but if it doesn't light up then the lights work.

Okay i figured it out. After a stroke of luck i noticed that there was something in the passenger side where the light goes into. After pulling it out and having a strugle to squeeze it through the light housing my lights went on. I quickly noticed that it as touching the wire and when it stopped the lights went off. This means that the wire was loose on one which caused both of them to go off, or so I think. Nowthat I know it's the wire that goes to my light how do I fix it. Can I just electrical tape it on and hope to God it works?

But my lights still only work on the high beams setting. Does that mean I need to replace the light switch to get my regular lights to work or is it still the wiring?
