Help!!!

Please help!! I broke a spark plug in the hole. It broke off right before the threaded area on the plug. So, all the threaded area is still in there. Any ideas on how to get it out? I'm very open to suggestions. Thanks

leading or trailing?...anything at all left to grab on to?

87racer 04-29-04 04:53 PM

It's the lead (bottom front of car) and no there's not much at all. It feels like it's porceline(sp?) with just the metal outside for threads. I was thinking of JB welding something to it but I'm just not sure.

planning on an engine rebuild anytime soon?, j/k...only thing I can think of would be to try to remove as much of the ceramic/ inner conductor as you can (to get some "grab points" going), then take some needlenose pliers and spread the tips apart as far as you can in there, and try to turn it that way, maybe get a crescent wrench on the swivel point on the needle nose to help you turn it...if it was stuck in there bad enough to break it, though, I don't know...

Hi, I'm Steve, been doing these kind of fixes for longer then you been alive, If the hex broke off and the rest didn't move it's in there teighter then your skill level alows to get it out with out ****ing it up. Sorry to put it that way, Find your self a old timer whos been around, there are lots of us still alive.

RXciting 04-29-04 06:50 PM

i guess you could disconnect the ECU so you don't fry it and try welding something the the inside of the plug after you remove as much of that shit as possible??

that is .. if you have a welder?

87racer 04-29-04 06:51 PM

Try me... Give me some help!!! ANYONE PLEASE!!!:(

RXciting 04-29-04 06:57 PM

well did the plug break from torque or did you just push it sideways?

87racer 04-29-04 07:07 PM

Broke from torque... so far a friend says I should drill a groove in it with a dremel and then heat it up and try unscrewing it. Any one else?

HAILERS 04-29-04 07:13 PM

I'd PM that old fart GAMBONE and ask him some questions.

JBWELD ain't gonna cut it. Sorry. Don't waste your time on that thought.

Frankly I don't know just what I'd do either. Unfortunatly I'd probably drill the guts out and use a screw extractor.....but then you have to ask *whar did all those drill shaving go to???*. Duh.

So. Is all the hex part of the plug really gone?????? And how did you do that????? In detail, how did it break off???

WAYNE88N/A 04-29-04 07:19 PM

DON'T weld it! that's an aluminum housing there, for one thing...did you try the thing with the needlenose?...dude, I hate to say it, but I think you're screwed...the good news? it'll be easy to get out once you pull the engine apart :)

RotaryPower27 04-29-04 07:21 PM

thats one hell of a trick

87racer 04-29-04 07:23 PM

I had the socket on it and tried to loosen it. It wouldn't budge. I tried again with better leverage and the whole hex part broke off. All that is left in there is the treaded area and the stuff in it.

WAYNE88N/A 04-29-04 07:33 PM

it's not going to do any good heating it up- that'll make it worse...if anything, you need to cool it down so that it's outer diameter "shrinks" in relation to the housing threaded bore...got any liquid nitrogen?

87racer 04-29-04 07:36 PM

Not off hand. It's already cooled down. I hadn't driven it for almost a year.

Take out as much ceramic you can and use an easy out.Use large one. This worked on camry I worked on that had the pug down a deep cavity.

Good luck

What do I do about any peices that fall inside the motor? How would I prevent it? A vaccum?
