Help 13B won't start! Frustration!!!

I am having a hard time to start my 7. Not even push starting it works. I tried everything, even the ATF trick, but it does nothing.
It has fuel, spark and air. But still nothing. Is there any way to rule out all possible problems? This motor has been in another car before and has trouble starting. Is there something i missed that anyone can point out please?

HAILERS 09-20-01 06:05 PM

What year is your car. What year car did the motor come out of. There's been a rash of low impedence injectors being put in high impedence cars on this site lately. 87 and 1/2/ and under cars basically used low impedence,2-3 ohm injectors. Newer injectors are 12 ohm.

Frustrated 13B!

The donor car was an 88 GXL from which i pulled the motor from.
And it was installed into a 87 GXL. After that i tried cranking and the motor would just spin. Tried push starting it and it just wouldn't start. What could be causing this?

HAILERS 09-20-01 09:29 PM

The 88 uses the 12ohm injectors that will not work in the 87 unless action is taken. The easiest is to remove the injectors out of the 87 engine and put them in the 88 engine. Go to the following most excellent site http://www.k2rd.com/FC3S/MODS/FUEL/inj.htm It explains a lot. You'll be looking for the fuel injection resistor network and you'll find it below the afm/air filter assy. Remove that and you will see a aluminum covered resistor pack about 3 inches long. If you still are confused, write back. Do not wear the starter out. Need to change injectors or jumper the resistor pack.

man that site is pretty helpful. not just for the above problem too...

I will try what you said and report back to tell you the results, thanks.

I found the resistor pack under the afm, but how do i exactly by pass it? Do i reconnect the four injector wires back into the power wire going into or from the resistor pack. My father is the one doing the work, he has very little knowledge about rotory engines
and has little patience with them. If i were the one doing this i would get it started.

Keith 09-23-01 10:37 PM

To bypass the resistor pack, you would simply unplug it, and connect the 5 wires going to it from the engine harness together. Nice to know info, power is the black/yellow stripe wire, all the injector wires are brown with various color stripes. Good luck!

if not even push starting works and your car has gas
maybe check te fuel pump thats what happend to me
mine went a little while ago and i couldnt even push start it

Spool-n-Boost 09-28-01 12:19 AM

Resistor Pack

No, the fuel pump seems to be working fine because fuel gets to the engine i checked. And there is spark, something seems to be wrong.

Saku 09-28-01 02:56 AM

Is it just me or are you guys thinking too hard and it's just flooded?

nd4spd 09-28-01 10:59 AM

First check for fouled plugs. Should be obvious. Next (and this cost me a tow job) check to see that the intake hose is connected to the turbo. Mine had come lose on bottom but I could not see it. The air sensor could not pick up any flow so it would not start. Last, a very tired motor is harder to start. Do a compressiom check.

HAILERS 09-28-01 01:28 PM

Spool n Boost....Did you jumper the resistor pack like Irv, Keith's father suggested? Have you gone to the injectors and check the resistance? Just curious.

HAILERS 09-28-01 02:07 PM

Here is a post that is very similar to what your problem is https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/show...threadid=14154

Frustated with engine

For the person who suggested that i chech to see see if the turbo inlet is connected to the intake, my motor is NA.
And Hailers no i didn't jump the resistor pack because my father won't do it. He insists that it isn't the problem and that 88 NA injectors will work with an 87 NA system. So it is all on him.
I would try it myself but he's the one that bought the car.
My dad went to a local rotary shop here in miami, they too said any year RX7 injector will work in any model rx7.(even 79-85 injectors on 2 Gen cars) And they also got the car to start without removing the injectors and said there was something wrong with the O2 sensor.

Spool-n-Boost 10-01-01 09:14 AM

Back Firing

No that the car starts, when the accelerator is floored it backfires alot and when the accelerator is released it dies. The engine will not idle! Could this be a sign of bad fuel?

HAILERS 10-01-01 12:44 PM

Well lots of luck. I got something out of this post anyway. And that is to avoid any and all rotary shops in Miami.

So no one seems to know the reason as to why the engine is back firing and not idling at all?

HAILERS 10-03-01 01:37 AM

I'm curious about your thread where your talking about how THEY got the engine to start and run. Are you saying it ran in a normal manner? Or did it backfire etc? By the way, the car will start and run without a o2 sensor. Also you might want to look at this link and wonder why they seperated the different years for the fuel injectors... http://www.mazdatrix.com/c-6.htm . Can't help myself, did these mazda mechanics in the city of Miami vote in the last presidential election and have trouble with the ballot?

Spool-n-Boost 10-06-01 06:20 PM

Backfiring?

The car starts but it backfires like a b*tch, and won't idle at all.
In order to keep the engine going the accelerator has to be floored down otherwise, the engine falls asleep. And i don't know what these mechanics did to get it to start.

HAILERS 10-07-01 07:14 PM

Somebody help Spool n Boost please. I'm lost. Bumpity bump bump.
