Heating problem

I just purchased my FC a few months ago, and it's become apparent to me that there is a problem with some component of the heater in the car. Sometimes when I turn the heat on, it will blow warm for a little while, and then eventually start to blow cold. This usually happens after a few minutes. Other times, it will only blow cold air. Sometimes, even when the fan is turned off, it will let in a bit of cold air (presumably from outside.)

I'm not sure if this is due to an electrical or mechanical failure.

So, my question to you: Does anyone have an idea of what might cause a problem with these symptoms?

Had the same problem. I never fixed it but i always assumed it was the heater core.

If you have it set to allow air in from the outside rather than to recirculate the internal air then at speed air will still force its way into the car through the system even with the fan off.

As for the phantom temperature changes I don't know.

Sorry, what exactly is the "logicon?" Is that the control panel?

Yes, the control panel above the radio and under the vents that controls the heater and ac. You can try swapping it out with someone elses who is known to work. Its a pain in the *** to get it unplugged though.

Not trying to bump my own forum, but I haven't resolved the issue yet. It's gotten a bit better after my dad took a look at it, but there hasn't been a definite resolution so far.

Any further suggestions?

isn't the heater has something to do with your cooling system?

hahaha. well said, t-2.

I just changed coolant a couple months ago, and am running about a 50-50 mix.
Thanks for the advice, though.

Regarding dothacker's comment, I believe it does deal with the cooling system. I think there is a valve that determines whether air comes in from outside or goes through the car's air system, which is more or less stuck open, or doesn't work properly.

i'm just saying, if hot coolant isn't passing through the heater system, wouldn't there be any hot air? think about it :P

Pull the dash and heater core and blowermotor your problem lies in there somewhere. check the vents inside the heatercore box and make shure the blower motor is working properly. It will take you the better part of a day so make sure you have time to do this

What tests have you done?
Have you tested the hoses to the heater core to make sure they're hot on both sides?
Have you tested your air mix motor?

The thermostat is new. I think SukMy7 has the right idea.
I haven't done any of the tests Goofy mentioned, so I'll try those as soon as I get a chance (i.e. I have a chance to look at the car when we're not under a level 3 snow emergency)
