well as the title says, my heater blower motor blows....and not the good way. I tested the voltage going out to the plug (where it plugs into the blower motor) and it seems all kosher there. So i picked up a new motor and it still didnt work. I am confused as you can very well imagine. Any ideas on things I can check or may need to look into getting. Everything else seems to work fine. when I change where the air is supposed to go, i hear stuff moving and i assume all well. thanks for the help

rebuild the ol' Logicon, it sounds like... Have you tried that? Is it still original?

 

Yeah the solder points go on the logicon causing the blower to act suspicious.

 

check for actuator rods that might have come off, mine did, I drove around half the winter with only cold air to the windshield

yeah it is all original. ill give that a whirl. I dont know if it is helpful, but when you slide the switch over to adjust the speed of the blower.......there is a little click that can be heard. Maybe this helps (just remembered it...) thanks

checked it out. All the wires seem to be in check, but......when you turn the fan on, you hear the one relay clicking. I dont know if that meants anything. MOst confused over here.

note: everything else is in check with the logicon too. when i change the direction of the air and everything, i see the adjuster deal moving.

 

The click is the heater blow relay. Totally normal. You need to resolder the logicon to begin with. Once you have done that, test again. If you are still experiencing slow blower movement, there are some transistors in the logicon that should be replaced.

 

Next time you go to the junk yard, get more than just the blower motor. Get the housing that it is bolted into. That housing has relays/transistors mounted on it in places you don't normaly see. It cost only five to ten bucks. Give it a try.

 

quick question, how i do i get to the harness that comes out of the logicon. should i just pull the cable till i see it?

You'll love Mazdas arrangement. One of the Harness Plugs disconnects at the bottom of the Windshield. It snakes It's way up there. You'll want to pop off the the big trim that sits on top of the dasboard to gain access to It. Although, I've heard of people feeding their arm through the Logicon slot - upwards to disconnect the Plug.

I have soldered every connection In the Logicon. If your fixed on time, I'd just solder at the Harness plug junctions. But before you close It up, take the time to check over any visable cracks that may be present on all the circuit boards.

 

Mine had the same symptons as yours.

Up above the heater blower, there is a silver transistor with a huge heatsink, inside this transistor housing thing, there is a little thermal fuse. Mine blew, so the whole thing stopped working.

So I got a new fuse, and like a genious I soldered it on.

Tip: Don't solder a thermal fuse!

Ok I blew that fuse, so I got another one, and this time only soldered the long end.. and voila! It works again.

 

i will try that out. just gotta get the fuse first. i might be picking up a 300 dollar parts rx7 next week or something. not a bad deal for a rx7 in pretty good shape, just stuck vaccuum deals.

hey, is this what i am supposed to fix? i suck at fixing cars and whatnot.

 

jsut took apart that lil piece deal there. is it the transistor looking deal that is connected to one of the tabs? it says "microtempo" on it and has a few voltages and whatnot.

i got mine from some mailorder thing for obsolete electrical parts.. i dont even remember the name

 

oh but first check to make sure its actually blown (put a meter on it)

 

will do first thing tomorrow when i get back to the shop. and i was really hoping i could get it at radio shack but we do have some other suppliers I may be able to check (newark electronics) and some other places.

if its not that, any other ideas?

its just a thermal fuse nothing too rare, radioshack probably has something that would work

 

just curious, how did you figure out that this was the problem? lol, i would have given up in about 10 minutes had there not been these message boards.

btw i checked my fuse and it is blown. time to see if the shack has something, if not I found a place that has one (catalog). Thanks

one other quick question if you remember. what temperature did you get yours at? i see i think it says "119*" on it, but it is worn off quite a bit. and I did find that radioshack has some (at least on their web-site)

 

yeah 119 degrees C which is like 237 F...

yeah my heater was out of my car for a while pondering over this problem. it was during the summer and i didnt have my liscense yet so it wasnt a big concern
