heading to teh 1/4 strip this weekend.

i'm taking the ole 91 GXL up to our 1/4 mile drag strip friday and i was just wondering what i should run. i think we're gonna run a straight pipe from the exhaust manifold out the back of the car. that would make my mods just straight 2.5" exhaust with no muffler, intake, aux ports open fully at 4k and VDI works perfect, FD wheels with 225 kumho 711's. i'll be taking out my passenger seat, spare, jack, subs, rear carpet, etc for my runs when we get to the track.
i would really like to see a 15.99, but i have a feeling its gonna be some high 16's low 17's :)

what do you S5 NA guys on here run with intake and full exhaust with 6pi and VDI working?

rotary>piston 06-02-03 02:07 AM

well, up here at 1 mile high, with a crappy launch (2.5 sec 60') I ran a 17.7. An s5 GXL ran a 19.0, then a 19.9, but he REALLY sucked.
Don't be surprised if you run a shit time. If you've never done it before you won't run very well.

jacobcartmill 06-02-03 08:48 PM

i've come across some horrendous times from the mile high area. i think altitude has a larger effect on drag strip times than everyone thinks.

importboi22 06-02-03 09:16 PM

17.9!!! :)

jacobcartmill 06-02-03 09:17 PM

haha damn dude...

importboi22 06-02-03 09:42 PM

im jking... at least a 16.8

J-Rat 06-02-03 09:51 PM

Dont get your hopes up there Jacob, its not going to be fast, whatever the time is....;)

Prolly, I am not at home right now though.

RarestRX 06-03-03 01:05 AM

Yo,

I've run low 16's, then high 15's. For your car, depending on your launch...I'll say 16.10 @ 88.7mph.

How's that for a guess? *grin*

My car doesn't have working 6 ports, so you should be able to get a good launch. It's all in the launch!

Good luck!

jacobcartmill 06-03-03 01:22 AM

well, it looks like the quarter mile thing is gonna have to be pushed back a couple weekends. they are having some bigass domestic sanctioned event all weekend at the 1/4 track so we're goin to the 1/8 track (its right down the road)
any guesses as to my 1/8th time with a full intake/straight exhaust/working 6pi and VDI?

hey kev i noticed that your best 60' was a 2.300. thats not as good as i would have expected... how were you launching? i was expecting to see some nice 2.2's come out of the GTUs.
i have been under the impression that slipping the clutch from about 6000-6500 would be the best way to launch, but hell. thats a clutch's worst nightmare. i usually just dump the clutch at 6000 and it doesnt do TOO bad...
whats a "good" launch with an NA on street tires?

PS, i have FD wheels with some nice new 225/50 tires in the back.

rotary>piston 06-03-03 05:49 PM

I slipped the clutch at 6000, but I still only got a 2.46 60' time.

Terrh 06-03-03 06:25 PM

16.9@80mph

Between 1.5 and 2 seconds difference from Denver to Sea Level atthe times your talking about. The difference is less the faster you go. example 12seconds would be an 11, only a second diff and less at 8 second. Just like it takes ALOT more HP to go from running 11's to running 7's, more than twice without going twice as fast.

Rattaan 06-06-03 07:37 PM

I have to get back to the track soon, but I ran 16.70@84 something with no 6pi sleeves, screwed up afm, and TPS with a straight pipe. Now I have slightly lower profile tires, short shifter, header/presilencer, and the 6pi sleeves in and working properly. I would be happy to get into the 15's.

Heres a couple 1/8 mile threads that i ran.

9.9 on shit tires with 87 base and downpipe

jacobcartmill 06-06-03 07:58 PM

damn 9.9 is good for na, but the series5's are slower... right?

Less slip and more drop.

The 60 FT in the 2.257 is not really shitty for an N/A. I've been getting my best time from around a 4200-4500 drop, anything more and they eat too much and anything less and it bogs a little.
