It seems like with that A2W intercooler so close to the engine that it will get pretty hot. I hope it works for you, but it looks easier to just use a FMIC. Glad to hear you almost have it running, you must be dying to drive it. I can't stand it when I don't drive my car for a few days. :)

thats why an a/w inter cooler is used. because some people dont want to run lengths of piping and have a straight shot to the engine. often, auto manufacturers build an intake manifold plenum around the air to water inter cooler and this does not affect the performance much at all.

looks like a botch job, sorry :[

you really should install the manifold and turbo heat shields, those paper exhaust gaskets won't last long, you really need coolant for the turbo to prolong its life, that TID..., they make fasteners specifically for attaching a fan to a radiator that are cheap and available at parts stores, though that fan may not move enough air anyway, why are you using an A2W setup?

i agree with this 100%.

get a proper tid, a proper intake filter, a proper radiator fan with a shroud, and move that air to water intercooler someplace besides jamming it right next to all the vital electricals.

First,

black89fc: I live in Minneapolis around Downtown there are a few 7 owners here and a couple of rotary shops you just gotta look ;)

1SWEET7:
yeah it sucks but its going to fun to drive soon, I went with the A2w setup because I didn't want to cut up the frame or go with a topmount + TII hood pressure drop in A2w setups is usually around .1 or .2 PSI vs. what you have in a FMIC. I may eventually change my setup and do a V mount or something even more crazy but we will see.

Now, for the rant...

SirCygnus and K-Tune:

Regarding my TID that you hate so much
http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/projec...jun92002-2.htm
look at his TID.... hmm looks similar to mine not sure why...
Oh and this one too
http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/TID.htm
It may not be metal and shiny and stamped with some large brand name but its functional, its been done before and it works.

As for the HKS filter there is nothing wrong with it, it works just fine as discussed already.

Exhaust gaskets if they go bad I will replace them no big deal...

I asked a well known local reputable shop about the placement of the heat exchanger they actually recommended that spot. The lines won't leak and it will be secured.

About the heat shields go look at aaron cakes build he didn't use them either given it would be more beneficial to me to use them but I am not to worried about it.

The fan will be fine I don't plan on permanently mounting the fan the way it is currently as for its functionality a forum member used it on his TII should work just fine for me. Once again its not optimal without a fan shroud but it will once again work just fine. Oh and the "fasteners" are glorified zip-ties btw...

The coolant lines on stock turbos are primarily to keep the oil from cooking from your typical user who shuts the car off immediately after a hard run. Now lets say I was a typical user who didn't let the car cool down or didn't install a turbo timer I would agree with you it would drastically hurt the lifespan of the turbo.

aaron cake is not the end all be all guru of rotary engines. period. that project tina was a hack job and he could have done soo much better, but he was on a budget.

the fact you have no fan shroud is simply dumb. you are taking a stock turbo, and runing it as it is not intended ( water lines ) and whatever justification you have, is false. its there for a reason.

no one who daily drives or even drives their car on the street shuts it off immediately. parking it can take a minute or two, and even then, the car is cooled down. unless your the type of person who does drag racing down their driveway.

hks filters fail and debris from teh filter element get sucked into your engine. yay!

the heat exchanger is in a weird place. have fun changing your spark plugs. why not put it at the front of the engine like everyone else?

im just giving you some helpful hints that would make your build soo much better. doing it cheap is ok, but doing it cheaply is not.

magus2222 11-20-10 02:48 AM

ya, stop using so many silicone couplers, the less you use, the more reliable the system will be, and the less likely the chance of blowing them out.
yes, i know that a2w doesnt build up that much pressure, just stating a simple boost pressure pipe-line problem.
the tid isnt horrible, but come on, at least use metal........
if you are going to use a e-fan, use a fan shroud and a fan thats at least 2500 cfm..........
thats about all i can think of at this point.
you might want to seriously consider going over the system and rethinking your entire setup

I can see debating some of the philosophical underpinnings that shaped AC's Tina but there is no way it could be considered a "hack job".
Personally, I'd be proud if my car was "hacked" like his.
