gotta race this weekend...need opinions

well its been 2 months and 500 bucks... but i got my T2 back. my rents picked it up last friday. my dad is driving it to work a few times to get rid of the stale gas in it and running some fuel system cleaner. i'm going home (i'm at school in toledo) this weekend to pick it up. i'm scheduled to race my two friends...one i'm not worried about at all, he has a 15.0@90ish Dodge Neon. my other friend has a 00 mustang GT that he ran a 14.75@92ish and he's kinda scarin me. my car has stock engine with air pump and A/C removed. i have 8.5 mm wires, K&N drop in, and punched out cats with dynomax turbo y-pipe mufflers. i have a boost gauge on the dash so i can keep an eye on things...don't want to blow it up.

will i win????? i haven't driven her yet (well i drove it up the driveway a few times..lol) i'm gonna drive through a few tanks on friday i'm sure and then i'll go race saturday most likely. that is unless i go to grudge matches at NTR. i'm a decent driver and i think i can hold her to at least 14.9 but do you guys think i can pull on a stock GT???

thanks for any help and i'll be sure to post the reults ASAP.

You'll get a better response in the 2nd Gen section so that is where this will go...

wow...a 15.0 neon? thats pretty quick :D

well, if your friend has a 00 GT and ONLY ran a 14.7 i'd consider him a shitty driver. from what i remember they should run a 14.0. from a roll you should definately stay with him if not pull a little bit

was your car being tuned up or something?

Id be a bit weary of ur friend with the GT if he has picked up some driving skills since he last went to the track....i have 5 friends with 99-01 stang GT's all of them ran 13.7-13.9 in stock trim...not sure what traps tho....:(....I dont think you'll win vs the GT but then again judging from his times he is one crappy driver so who knows..just race for fun and tell us the out comes :D...good luck!

Practice your starts and shifting, he has torque and you have revs, don't bog down or spin much at the start and you have a shot! Don't have much gas in the tank to cut down on weight and ask a friend...To ride with him! ha ha... Good luck!

sweet...

i'm gonna make fun of him...LOL
he rags on my buddy with the neon (they are roommates) all the time about not breaking into the 14's. but he's the one thats the shitty driver! i'm gonna watch out for him...he might have a good day and beat me...shit.. i didn't know 00 GT's could go low 14's. guess i never paid attention. he has put Cobra R rims on it with bigger rears...so he should get my tration off the line..but he is a pussy driver. i think i can drive better in the stang than he can (race wise). i've driven it a few times and it has massive grunt... but i think i can take him on the highway.

i have a bug in my engine though... if you all could check the tech page and gimme some suggestions...

here's the link ---> https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/show...threadid=25234

hope i can figure this out soon!!! if not no racing or T2 for me for another 2 monthes or more. :(

You go to school in Toledo...what year are you. I'm going to be starting my junior year (damn co-op) this spring term. I live on secor rd with a bunch of my buddies. Also, what color is you car?

Practice

If you haven't had alot of wheel time with this car take her out and practice your launches, and shifts. The condition of your tires, suspension and tranny will determine how much power you can put down at the launch, and how quick and well you can shift. Figuring out how much that is, and not overshooting or undershooting it will help alot. I know that I still need work doing this.

You'll probably know in the first 60' whether you're going to beat the Mustang or not.

if you were'nt so young and not knowing what shape youre car is in,i'd say go to home depot and buy a needle valve at the plumbing dept.take it to youre dad he'll know what to do.but if i was you i'd find an excuse not to race chances are you'll loose.

lighten your car before the race. i think you got a good chance to win.

clear out the spare tire and any tools. no stray crap in the car. clean the glove box out. id recommend taking out the spare seat before the race. thats a BIG weight off your car. wear shorts and a t-shirt.... pee like a racehorse.... and maybe shave your head :)

but lighten the car, and youl get a few extra ponies..... i think this will help you.

If your car sat for a long time and had stale gas....think about replacing the spark plugs .....with the NGK's not some other crap. play with tire pressure ( low in the rear 25-28 psi - high..about 40 up front). practice wherever your going to race, and know EXACTLY what RPM to launch at. Good luck.
