Going to pick and pull, what miata do i find torsen
Where do i find torsen diff out of miatas, already searched :icon_tup:
|
look under the car, towards the back I think.
|
thanks <edited>, but for reals, do certain miatas only have em, i dont know shit about miatas
|
I think some 94-95's are the ones you want if you're looking for a torsen that will swap into an NA pumpkin - I don't know if all Miata's those years have the torsen, or if those are the only years (I'm pretty sure none early than that tho)

94+ 1.8 Miatas use the torsen LSD. But not all of them, you just need to get lucky I guess ;) Seriously though, I have no idea on how to tell if the miata will have the LSD or not. One method Ive heard is that if it is a 5-speed and has cruise control, it will have LSD. Im not sure how true it is, but every one Ive seen with cruise has had LSD.

Yup thats me. What you driving?
|
O yea man....last time I went to the stockton one...it had like ONE miata. So im not sure if your gonna have luck with that. You should just get a rear end from a GXL.
|
i got the same car you do but faded paint and its an 86....
i kno stockton pick and pull sux. ill take a LSD rear end from anything i can get, but pick and pull hardly ever has rx7s, let alone GTUs or GXLs. |
Any 94-05 torsen will fit, you can call Mazda with the VIN number to check.

Only some have it, but there's no surefire way to tell without some disassembly or a call to Mazda with the VIN number.
|
First, you want the rear from a 1.8 (1994+) as others have said. There were a variety of ratios used over the years.
http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/gearing.php Here's the Miata diff spotting guide: http://www.miata.net/garage/diffguide/index.html Not easy, but it will help. Your other option would be to call one of the Miata dismantlers - they'll know which is which. http://www.flyinmiata.com/salvage/index.php http://www.planetmiata.com/ http://www.partsgroup.com/ |
Since you're open minded to an RX-7 LSD, I'll suggest you put a WTB ad in your region. Someone's got to have one for sale now or soon.

my sig explains itself... the wankel is a wankel the plane engine is actually called a radial engine, but anyone who works with planes or on an airstrip calls it a rotary... |
yeah the stockton pick n pull is rarely good i went there once for parts after a wreck and they had four s5s. man had no money for the intake swap. last time i went though there were a couple miatas though good luck man. if you see a white auto gxl that has the rear end pulled out i got to that one haha.
|
Well if it's a really early radial where they bolted the crank to the plane and the prop to the engine, then it's a rotary, if it's the other way around then it's just a radial. They did this to get away with not needing an exhaust manifold and such(since they all exhausted at the same place and they just left it open).
A Wankel is still a rotary though. |
