The glass fell out of my mirror.

The glass fell out of my passenger side mirror. :(

Are there any options besides getting a glass shop to custom cut glass for it? I'll make a bet they can't match the blue tint and I am damn sure not buying a whole new assembly!

S5 Vert.

You might be surprised. Most German cars from that era used the same blue tinted glass. It's possible you could even get the slightly convex piece. If it's a little off, just get both sides. It sounds like the original glass broke, so you may find yourself removing the other side to use as a template anyway. Unfortunately, I can't think of a single good glass shop down there (I never had much of a need for the more involved glass work until I got up here). My car club is massive and numerous though, and someone might know a good place. I can ask around if you'd like. I'd just about guarantee I get at least one solid recommendation.

How difficult is it to remove the mirror glass?
I've never messed with the mirrors beyond bolting them on and off.

I've ignored probably dozens of junkyard mirrors because the housings were messed up but the glass was still intact.

I believe rear view mirror glass is usually glued on, and to get to all the guts are underneath the glass. I played with some s5 rear views i have a couple years ago and thats what i seem to remember

Pain in the ass to disassemble with breaking something.

I had glass fall out of the mirrors of both an older 626 we had about a dozen years ago, and VW Passat - it was actually easy to get replacement mirrors from a glass shop, as I recall. I think my pockets were lightened to the tune of $25 or so, but it's a pretty vague recollection.

Jackhild gave me a link to the last piece of factory glass in the USA. Ordered it! :D

Now how the hell do I glue it back onto the housing?

Find out what Mazda used...then use something else.
3M probably makes something specific for the job.

Goto your local hardware and ask

Where i work we have "loctite" brand construction adhesive that works really well, it held a 3 foot by 8 foot piece of mirror to a chunk of stainless steel

What did it cost and where'd you get it?

Rob XX 7 03-25-15 02:58 PM

go to a local windshield place and ask them, for a few bucks I bet they glue it on for you
