Fuel leak FPR?

I finally started up my reman today!
It started on the first try :)
Then I smelled fuel :(

I can see fuel coming out of the FPR, when I pulled the vac line on it fuel was dripping from the nipple on the FPR.

I assume this means that it's no good, right.
If so then my question is do I have to take off the dynamic chamber to change it or can I do it with it on?

I don't remember how the FPR is connected to the Secondary rail. Does it thread in or is it part of the rail?

Where should I get one from, dealer or what? I hope it's not as much as my pulsation damper was.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

There should be crush washers around where the FPR joins the rail. Try replacing those.

Can you get the FRP off without taking the dynamic chamber off?

I dont think it's the washers because when I pulled the vac hose off the nipple it sprayed pressurized fuel.
Isn't their only air supposed to be in the vac part? Doesn't that mean the FRP is broke inside if fuel is bypassing into the vac hose.

Anyone have any advice.

Fuel came out of the VAC HOSE NIPPLE!??!@$?@#$?

Shit buddy, your diaphragm is busted ;)

Get a new fpr.

Thats what I think.

Again can I get it off without taking the dynamic chamber off?

Should I buy new or get a used one?
If this rarely happens to FRP's I could go used right?

I see t2 in your sig. Is it t2 or na?
t2-- no...
na-- possible but with alot of trouble.

edomund 09-28-03 02:15 PM

Yeah it's T2. Damn I have to pull everthing back off when I just put it together :(
Oh well.

Fingers 09-28-03 02:18 PM

Yeah pretty horrible... do me a favour? time how long it takes for you to pop the UIM off... for curiosity sake ;)

edomund 09-28-03 03:03 PM

How much are fuel pressure regulators?

Does this happen to them often?

Should I buy a mazda one or what?

edomund 09-28-03 03:43 PM

So I guess we agree that if it leaks from the vac nipple it's no good right, the diaphram is broken.

Autozone has them for $69, one year warranty.
Should I go that route?
Are aftermarket ones comparable?

Fingers I pulled the UIM today.
It only took about 30 min. to pull.

I left the 90 degree coolant hose on the bottom though. I can get to the fuel rail with it still connected.

You should be able to swap it right out on a s4 without replacing the rail. I had to do it on mine :(

Fingers 09-30-03 05:55 AM

Good stuff :) did you get an aftermarket AFR or did you stay with the stocker?

SonicRaT 09-30-03 07:54 AM

stayed with the stocker for the moment, was too poor for aftermarket :)

edomund 09-30-03 02:11 PM

Yeah I had Autozone order me one (stock replacement) also.

"You should be able to swap it right out on a s4 without replacing the rail. I had to do it on mine"

You're right I just lifted the UIM then I unthreaded the FPR right out without removing the rail.

Did yours leak out of the nipple also?

When I put the new FPR on I'm going to pressurize the fuel system before I put the UIM back on but I don't understand how to jumper the pump.

Can someone explain in detail how to jumper the pump and where the jumper is and what it looks like?

Thanks for the help
Ed
