First pics of my $500 GTUs... 16 pics, 56k no way.

Excuse the leaves, it's fall in New England and we had a hardcore storm last night. I bought her with no wheels, as two weeks before, some fuckheads stole the wheels, radio and shift knob. (He must have had a ricer knob on it...)

Here's the first problem... Broken mirror. I have the broken off piece, but I figure it will be easier to just buy a new one from one of you fine people:

Here's my phiggety-phat rims that enabled it to get on the tow truck...

No FTPs, but I found one inside, so I have to get the other one...

Problem number two... The front drivers fender is rusted out pretty badly...

Yay! Door panels!

Here's the bag of spare parts that came in the hatch... There's an assload of interior parts...

If anybody wants to tell me what button is missing on the cluster surround, I'd appreciate it.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...3/PB100042.jpg

Here's my missing radio and shift knob. :D

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...3/PB100043.jpg

And here's the rear passengers fender with it's wonderful rust/bondo....

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...3/PB100044.jpg

So, two out of four fenders suck, the engine is losing coolant, and I have to fix up some of the other stuff. I'm taking the 13B out of this, rebuilding it, porting it, and putting it into my FB. As for this, LS1 and T56 coming soon, and since those two fenders are fucked, I might go wide body, or at least do the flares on the back. Overall, I'm happy with it, and think I got a pretty good deal.

88rx7gxl 11-10-05 08:34 AM

Damn, For $500 you scored!! Nice lookin 7!

torean 11-10-05 08:36 AM

Ahh, so it's probably a dummy button or something. Thanks.

*starts thinking of interesting things to put there with a "secret" button... No, not naaaawwwwsss*

Alex-7 11-10-05 08:48 AM

Looks good.

PM me if you want a mirror.

$100T2 11-10-05 08:54 AM

Here's the engine... It has a brand new water pump and some hoses were replaced. The guy I bought it from said it has a blown apex seal, but it runs fine. I'm thinking coolant seal, but I'm going to do all the tests anyway.

$100T2 11-10-05 08:58 AM

Oh yeah, I'm pulling the seats out, fixing the stitching that's pulled, re-dyeing them black, and putting them in my FB. This will get some sort of aftermarket seats, or maybe Miata or RX-8 seats.

hondahater 11-10-05 09:02 AM

I think you got a better deal on your tII ;)

BklynRX7 11-10-05 11:28 AM

Why does that s5 have a s4 manifold?

slpin 11-10-05 11:31 AM

the center interior thingys s4 too

uRizen 11-10-05 11:40 AM

I was about to ask that too.

I'd check the differential and see if it's the 4.3... otherwise I think you didn't score a true GTUs. :( If if it's not, you've got a pretty sweet deal for $500. :D

Fero313 11-10-05 01:06 PM

and s4 center console??

i didn't know the GTUs could come with leather seats... i guess your right, dealer option...

I think he switched out the center console, because I have one that's a bit broken in the hatch. It's definitely an S5, it has the automatic seatbelts.

$100T2 11-10-05 01:49 PM

I'm wondering if it was an earlier theft recovery... I just looked at the door sticker, it was built in 89... But it has an S4 gauge cluster (like it matters...), and the current radio surround is S4, but I have all sorts of S5 parts in the back. It's like Frankenstein's monster.

cluosborne 11-10-05 02:28 PM

Since someone stole the radio and shift knob, they probably ruined the S5 center trim pieces during removal. S4 and S5 trim are interchangeable.

As for the engine... I've never seen an S5 with an S4 engine. Maybe this particular car had been built with the S4 engine, or someone put in an S4.

Nice find regardless.

arghx 11-10-05 02:33 PM

yeah the leather interior damn... didn't even realize that was an option on the GTUs

iSP33D-for-J3SUS 11-10-05 02:37 PM

Looks pretty slick. I say good find :)

How does it run?

Like shit. Clouds of white smoke, the guy said he "couldn't keep water in it." It runs though, and drives around well enough that I've moved it around on my property no problem.

SonicRaT 11-10-05 02:47 PM

The whole engine appears to be S4. What size rims does the door tag say?

89fc3sT2 11-10-05 02:47 PM

didnt GTUs come wit power windows?

SonicRaT 11-10-05 02:51 PM

Nope!

Also, it has a S4 AFM and what appears to be a S4 TPS? Did someone do a full S4 electronic swap on that including dash harness and gauges/etc!?

GodSquadMandrake 11-10-05 02:56 PM

That's a nice deal bro. It's got to be worth at least $500. Sorry to hear about the theft though. Some people....

Jager 11-10-05 02:56 PM

Can't be too bad for $500.

Good luck!

SonicRaT 11-10-05 02:57 PM

I just want to know the story behind it, kind of curious to see a S5 with a S4 engine, s4 electronics, various S4 interior peices, and etc!

Funkspectrum 11-10-05 03:24 PM

frankencar....

andrew lohaus 11-10-05 03:28 PM

how much of a gtus is it if it has an s4 engine? im confused

iSP33D-for-J3SUS 11-10-05 03:28 PM

Well, if it has more s4 pieces than s5 couldn't it be an s4 with s5 parts instead of the other way around?

iSP33D-for-J3SUS :bigthumb:

SonicRaT 11-10-05 03:30 PM

True that, though the build date would lead me to believe otherwise. We need more info damnit!

$100T2 11-10-05 07:24 PM

Build date is 3/89. It has the power seatbelts too, which says it is an S5. I am assuming it's not the original engine. I went under the car today to look at the rear end, but I can't tell the difference.

swiftfc 11-10-05 07:34 PM

is there a way to know what year the engine is? i kno the hondas have the year stamped acouple times near the exhaust manifold

SonicRaT 11-10-05 07:43 PM

What's the tire size spec on the door label? That'll give some ideas. So will the VIN #, sure is weird!

$100T2 11-10-05 07:45 PM

Alright, I'll go check. I gotta take the dogs out anyway.

$100T2 11-10-05 07:52 PM

Door sticker doesn't have wheel size, but it has tire size... 205/55VR16.

SonicRaT 11-10-05 07:59 PM

Yeah, that's the GTUs/TII tag then, that's one mixed together vehicle! Wonder what carfax says?

Yeah, I am wondering what the fuck happened too... But, it doesn't really matter anyway... The engine is coming out, probably this weekend, then it will sit around waiting for the LS1.

Can somebody show me a picture of an S5 interior so I can compare it? I am going to just do a custom gauge cluster anyway, but I'm wondering what the difference in A/C controls looks like.

Tessai 11-10-05 08:23 PM

S5->http://www.mazdamark.com/FCLOGICR.JPG

Pics from Icemark's site.

$100T2 11-10-05 08:27 PM

Ah, so they are basically the same. It's just the AC vents in the center that are different then?

I have both an S4 surround (which is installed right now) and an S5 surround in the hatch. So, if anybody wants an S4 surround (and I think it's pretty much perfect), let me know. I like the S5 better.

rosey 11-10-05 08:51 PM

Can't complain much for $500, however that 4.3 diff will KILL you with a LS1, but good thing everyone wants them for there rotaries, could probably get some decent $$ for it.

Have you found an LS1/T56 yet? I've been keeping my eyes open, but I don't really want to spend more then $3500 or so for a <80K mile or so 98-00ish f-body pullout, and I've been seeing them for more like 4K on ebay. I don't have the cash to buy it if I found it anyway, I still have to sell off all the parts I don't need on the TII for some money to get the project going.

Hellkat 11-10-05 09:12 PM

want my stock t2 radio :D anyways that damn gtu looks EXACTLY like my t2 weird. leather interior and all....

I found a full-pull LS1/T56 here for $2900 a couple months ago, but because I wasn't sure when I'd get an FC, I passed on it. I'm sure another one will pop up sometime.

Quangg 11-30-05 10:44 PM

hey man i bought an s4 n/a for 200. i live in boston. meet up sometimes. round spring or summer. by then we might have things together. and race on 93 haha

vaughnc 12-01-05 12:19 PM

The GTUs is know to have a few "parts bin" stuff from Mazda. Do you have snaps for the hatch cover behind the seat (in the carpet), but no mounts on the speaker covers?

Also Mazda still sells the Turbo II/GTU-S centercaps for those rims. Don't toss the RIMS, they're a bit rare.

My 89 GTUs Vin number starts like this -- JM1FC3312K0700???
so your should compare.

Also here is a few pictures of my 91TII inside to help you. If they don't work I will pull it out side and take better pics.

Also check your pms for rear end info

91verty 12-27-05 09:18 PM

thats a s4 motor in a gtus car? And how dare you come on the forum and isult the true rotor heads with talk of a ls1 motor for that car. youshould absolutely be ashamed of yourself. just kiddin"
