i used to want an FD sooo bad....when i was like 16...they were like brand new at the time. now after getting an FC and getting to know guys who have FD's i realize i don't really want one anymore. not unless its as a weekend car (every third weekend acutally because it won't run the other 2) and i have a good daily driver. oh lots of money is also good to have as well.

ultradef 08-12-03 09:31 AM

I can't decide. I think I'd like to have both :) . The FD looks beautiful is a little more refined, but there's just something about the FC that I love. I just love late 80s/early 90s Japanese sports cars. I'll take two of each. :D

chexmix78 08-12-03 09:46 AM

FC all the way, I mean I like the FD, but if I did not own this one and was looking into getting a weekend car, The FD wouldn’t be my first choice.

wozzoom 08-12-03 10:25 AM

FD = Sexy
FC = aquired taste

I've always wanted an FD. The FC was supposed to be a stepping stone, but now I have enough money into it that I could have bought an FD... *sigh*

Rxmfn7 08-12-03 10:49 AM

I love my FC, but I want a FD much more. Yes, its reliability is poor at best, and it has its problems, but I have yet to see a car that looks even close to as good as an FD. PLus, they can be stupid fast. I dont even use my N/A FC as a daily driver, so that isnt an issue. I keep Rx-7s for my "fun" car, and that will be a FD in less than a year hopefully :D

(God I cant wait..)

Bukwild 08-12-03 12:26 PM

I like them both. I own a vert/t2 now and i was really liking the top down action and if it was not for that I would have a 3rd gen.

not really, I think the fd is reliable, its just that people complain about problems, but really don't post when they're happy, since there isn't a reason to.

I daily drove my old FD for two years, no problems whatsoever.

I only sold it cuz I got sick of red.

ManGaZeRo 08-12-03 01:26 PM

aww just could have just a new sexy black paint job. damn can't go wrong wit black

rx-7s rock 08-12-03 05:46 PM

I've got the FC love. There is just something about the flat butt, circle tails, nice big scoop in the hood, and a sweet single turbo that makes me love the TII. I would love having an FD just because they look so sexy, but my heart is with the FC.

didn't want to pull the motor and pay 4k for new paint.

Mills 08-12-03 11:05 PM

A true rotorhead, I started my collection from the ground up. I'm still working my way toward an FD, but not til the FC is "done".

By then FD's will be purty cheap

REFLUX 08-13-03 12:54 AM

I know I wouldn't have as much fun with an FD as I do my FC

I'd baby it too much; FC is fun to drive and is a good daily too

chris_stampe 08-13-03 01:17 AM

No shit, I would rather have an FD but if I was to start over again...FC for sure. Its performance to price....the TII comes out way on top.

couldn't have said it better myself

FC's being the best of them

Blowtus 08-13-03 03:22 AM

I'd have said the gen3 was the best early 90's sportscar myself ;)
I'm not blinded by love for my fc... it's a great little car, but the fd is just *better* at everything. I'm more a driving enthusiast than a car enthusiast I guess...

Exactly. No matter how fast an FD can be, you can never cruise with the top down. Vert T2s are pimp.

RylAssassin 08-13-03 04:35 PM

I love FD's more than FC's. And im sorry to say but yes i bought my FC only because there was no way i could afford an FD. But is this a bad thing? Of corse not, I love my FC to death, its fun as hell and its easy to work on. But i could never say that if money wasent a factor id only stick with my FC. Id more than likely keep my TII and get an FD also.

Mephis 08-13-03 04:53 PM

i just want a TII 5spd, 1990 S5 just like my car but a turbo TII with a stick.

Rxmfn7 08-13-03 05:02 PM

Considering they didnt make automatic Turbo2s in North America, I dont think finding a 5-speed should be a problem...

RotorBalls 08-13-03 05:08 PM

could have had an FD...I love my FC

DropTopRocket 08-13-03 09:12 PM

My mother had the first Red Gen 1 of the truck in Chicago, Illinois. That same RX7 was the first car I ever drove. I have loved the RX7 since. 10 years later I saw a shiney red convertible being backed off a truck at the Mazda dealer I drove by going to work eveyday. I got in the office and called the dealer. He said it was an RX7 and I proceeded to buy my 88 Convertible via fax and phone from my office. They dropped it off to me at lunch... I don't need to tell anyone I never made it back into the office that day.

FCs FOREVER BABY!

650bhp 08-14-03 12:17 AM

Hey,

With all the money my FC has gone through and with a 20B making 400+kw i'll never trade for anything else. I could have bought a FD but i actually prefer the look and feel of the FC. There just awsome cars.

Cheers Chris

I swear me and this gentleman right here must have been seperated at birth..... or something like that.

I wouldnt want an FD with the engine in there, Hell, i hardly like rotary engines period, but the cars are great. I would LOVE an LS1 or hell and LS6 in a damn FD. Crank everytime, ride smooth as hell, and over 400 ponies and the tq to back it up from 1500RPM on up. Hell id like an 350 swap in the ol FC too.

Don't get me wrong, the FD is the sexiest shape ever to leave Japan. It's gorgeous. WAY better looking than my FC. Buut...have any of you guys actually looked under the hood of one of those things?

You will not find a more compact mass of technology anywheres in autodom. There was a guy with a CYM R1 at the track who was having problems (an FD...having problems? Naaah!) and I couldn't even locate the freakin' coil packs. [They're under the upper intake manifold, I've been told.]

It's crazy, it's like a rat's nest wrapped up in a ball of yarn. Everything is so tight...I don't see how you can work on the thing. Not to mention all the plastic in the engine bay. Plastic IC tops, plastic IC piping, plastic this, plastic that...yeah...that's going to last in the inferno that is a rotary's engine bay.

There is just no way I'd own one, since I know how much money it takes to get an FD running safely and correctly. You pay $15K for the car, you better have half that for "reliabilty" mods.

Honestly, the only FD I've ever wanted was Jim Swantko's R2. It had a single turbo, stand alone, cage, Volks, professionally tuned by PFS...just everything you'd want. A turn key. But he sold it and got a single turbo Supra. Why? Because he was always worried about the motor popping.

I know I'd just stress about it. I'd rather have an FD with a Renesis, or a NA 20B in it. I'm just a die hard NA fan...I've known too many people who have had bad luck with turbo rotaries.

Phew! Can you tell I'm bored at work?

Talk about being separated at birth.

I wholeheartedly concur.
