Fc Intercooler setup??

Just after some ideas of what people are running intercooler wise.

Am after some ideas as I wan a front mount but dont want it to be seen when you look at the car from the front.

Pics if you can please.

Thanks

the hardest fmic to see are the old style ones where both pipes run from the pass side light.
it is as hard to see as you get, as far as fmic goes.

look up my 91. if you really want pictures. just an old re ammeiya intercooler

I didnt modify ANYTHING to make it fit behind the bumper. It does push out just a little bit..but all the bolts bolted right back up..

Intercooler? What intercooler? My car has a "radiator" up front. ;)

skip that mess and go chemical brohimme

sen2two Oct 17, 2009 02:42 AM

yes, if your keeping the stock turbo, keep the stock intercooler and use water injection. or a mixture of water and meth.

cheaper and FAR better!

SRT-4 IC Mounted in front of radiator. Relatively cheap(IC $80, Pipes ~$150(custom welded), $25 taurus fan with shroud, total = ~$300), short piping, no hacking chassi/body involved. Radiator isn't blocked. Better sized for a smaller turbo. Can't see it from the front. Custom brackets easy to fabricate (steel bar, hammer, drill) Requires custom pipes, battery relocation, e-fan.

Additional custom ducting would improve cooling. Most of my logs show nearly ambient intake air temp, but my sensor might be kinda wacky, and readings are from just getting on it a little bit, not full out Racing and low boost.

Ah now am torn some good ideas there guys like the setups. How reliable are your intake temps?

Also any idea what power you can reliably take your cars up to with those setups?

Sorry to be a pain.

water injection reduces the limits of the stock top mount. heat soak vanishes, and makes everything inside your engine all shiny ta boot.

Do you mean raises the limit as in you can run more boost with WI? I've always fantasied about running the stock tmic with WI therefore you have minimal boost drop, quick spool, and lower AIT's.

^thats why im using stock intercooller and AI...

i have used 6 different types of intercooler set ups. and from my personal experience (with a stock turbo) stock top mount and Ai is the way to go.

^^^hmmm, what about a BNR hybrid? Think it's just about the same case?

just run another fluid such as methanol. ive run for a year and a half with the stock top mount on a bnr stage 1. then added some water with a tiny bit of meth ( +20 degree washer fluid ) and boy is my car super happy.

On my car I have a decent sized eBay style bar and plate intercooler mounted well behind the bumper:

http://www.aaroncake.net/misc/rebuil...ntercooler.jpg

It's not very visible except when looking directly at the car. A bit of black paint would likely make it disappear.

http://www.aaroncake.net/misc/rebuil...20Brackets.jpg

As you can see, it is mounted behind the cross member so no bumper modifications were required. It's also fairly safe in the event of a low speed front-end collision.

I did have to customize the end tanks. They are a little rough and I will likely clean them up this winter if I get around to it.
