Ever been a FC coupe?
 

ME and a friend of mine had a debate the other day about the Acura Integra. He said that he'd worked on and personally seen a coupe, but I know that Honda NEVER made an Integra coupe. Car turned out to be an LS sedan with GSR doors and glass molded to it. Looked VERY slick.

Anyways...that got me thinking about the FC. The FC was the only widely sold convertible (seen some FB's, but I know nothing about them), and I think that, if a couple were made, the vert would be the best platform.

Just curious what you guys would think about that, or if oyu've seen one.

Interesting idea. In cars that came in coupes and hatchbacks though, I have mostly preferred the look of the hatchback to that of the coupe. Get someone in here with photoshop and we can see how it would turn out. The vert would probably be the best starting point for something like this, but you'd want to lighten the crap out of it if you were going to be adding a hard top or the thing would end up weighing in like a camaro :D.

If it were a project I took on all the extra weight of the vert would be removed for the most part...except like the additional bracing from the factory (that can only be beneficial). The top it's self would merely be a number of connecting braces under a composite shell...so that it's self wouldn't weight much. The roll bar, that would still have to be there, would probably weight more than the top.

I don't know why I keep writing "weight" instead of "weigh"...

Hmm if you were gonna fab a roof, why not work a tube steel cage into it somehow. Actually I have no idea how hard that would be to do. The extra bracing from the factory could be done away with if you we're going to do something like this as it would probably be many times heavier than anything you'd build/add. Once again just throwing idea's out there from the blank spaces in my head as I have no experience with verts or fabbing stuff as said heheh.

I thought the extra bracing in the vert was built into the substructure at the factory...I don't think it can be "removed". Plus...I think that a safety bar would be lighter than a cage built into the roof...but I don't know yet. I do know that it would allow the room to be SUPER light.

and for what its worth, the 91 n/a RX7s are referred to as "coupe." not gtu, gxl, gtus.

edit: ah, i guess you mean two door sedan body. "coupe" i misleading. i usually just associate it with 'hard top.'

Hey casio. A coupe is a two door with a trunk. A hatch is a two door were the back glass lifts up. What you posted was a 4 door (sedan).

yea, but like i said, i usually just associate coupe with hardtop. and according to mazdamark.com, the 91s were called "coupe." and hatchbacks (as i agree with that term) can also be fastbacks, right? that term always threw me off.

i do agree that if the convertible rx7 was made into a "coupe," it'd look pretty good. i know i personally prefer most coupe fox body mustangs over the hatches. also, the coupe is lighter.

I thought fastbacks were coupes with sloped backs...like old mustangs...

I think it would look something like the 240SX coupe.

The non convertible FC is considered a coupe by Mazda.

why would you want a hardtop 2door rx7 with a trunk? the only vert I like the looks of are the ones that simulate the hatch styling which I think don't have a trunk.

Who cares about a trunk? I just think a coupe would look slick.

i think there was a post awhile back of a guy that fibre glassed his vert roof into a hard top and what not looked hinda haggard but it was done

That would be a rigid car, but it would be very heavy. I say start with a hatchback and add in the extra chassis bracing you want with lightweight materials.
