Engine Stand Mounting
 

I am looking at one of the manuals from the sticky threads above. It shows the Mazda engine stand bolts in four places to the front steel part. The four bolts or studs under the pulleys??

I haven't done this so far but from what I can see reading ahead this is the only place to mount the engine becuase of the future breakdown of the motor. Am I right????

I have an engine stand that works for Chevy's. All I need to do is modify it to fit those four places and that should be it..... correct???

i have a stand thats fully adjustable .. its been around since the late 70's and worked fine. the only real problem i had was finding bolt long enough with the threat pattern i needed to mount the engine. BTW you mount the engine to the stand where the tranny bell housing bolts up to the engine

this is what i have, its a pineapple racing engine adapter. you bolt it to the side studs in the second picture. the adapter should fit most stands

See, I would have thought that you just bolt it to where the Tranny mounts like alwayssideways said. But then capn said what the manual said.

Always, did you go through your whole engine with it bolted up like that??? Mine will mount like that way with out any modifications at all.

capn, where did you get that?? is it most mazda shops?? How much do they run?? Why does it only have three holes in it??

i think they go in about a inch .. those are 5 inch bolts and i had to shim the hell out of them to get them to work .. the thread and pitch size is 10mm x 1.25 i blieve ,, might be 1.50 .. damn i forgot it already just take your starter bolt with you ,, i think its the same thread .

I have the engine stand adaptor from that guy on eBay. I think he wants like $35+ shipping

i forget how much it cost i think it was like $70, its well made and well worth it www.corksport.com just search for adapter. the three side bolts mount to where your AC PS braket attach to the engine and its only three bolts and you can tear the engine down totally to the front iron. makes it much eaiser and more manageable.

CP Racing ( http://www.cpracing.ca ) sells the adapters as well. Mine is from CP.

If you have a welder, some steel and an hour, you can make your own.

You don't need the adapter. Remove the studs from the front plate and find the right bolts to go through the arms of the stand.

this is what you want, the others are for decoration..

this adapter style will allow you to spin the engine side up or side down holding onlt the front iron so you can build the engine while it is on the stand, if you mount it at the bellhousing or spread out across the side of the motor you cannot tear the engine down and reassemble it.

i made one just recently. its not worth having to buy steel to make one. i used the existing head for the stand and welded 2 angle irons to it. the steel i used was kinda thin so i added some gussets. like my shitty weld job?!?! :bigthumb:

im doing mine on a normal engine stand. and ive been able to assemble the engine just fine ..

That is what I was asking. Can you bolt up to the rear and go through the whole engine?? Have you pulled yours apart and rebuild it while on this stand??

You can't really tear apart the engine if you bolt it up from the rear because you still have to access the tension bolts.
