engine replacement options?

what engine replacement options do i have? i have a normal 87 13b non turbo and i wanna know what options i have with out putting a turbo in it to get some more horses on my side

depending on how long you want it to last you can go anywhere from a street port to a pport, some people go carb'd and get some decent #'s, although they require more tuning. Poke around and search a few sites

also try calling some places that rebuild, they would be a great source of info

i saw engine porting options. could i just add stage 2 porting to my engine and nothing else or would it have to be rebuilt first...please excuse my stupidity on this subject im still learning haha these engine are tricky;)

CrackHeadMel 02-09-03 03:36 PM

the engine has to be taken apart to be ported

xxxbadassfoxxxx 02-09-03 03:58 PM

hmmm i see...so is the porting option along with the rebuild better than lets say getting a brand new one and adding a turbo...custom of course...might take a small bit of imagination haha

CrackHeadMel 02-09-03 04:44 PM

yeah, you pretty much have to rebuild when you do porting, i belive you destory some of the gaskets while taking it apart

if you plan on going turbo, you have to (well ill say should) get a tubo block, it has a different intake setup, and lower compression rotors.

if you do go turbo, there are alot of things you should and haveto upgrade to let your car operate properly, you should probably research this quite a bit before making the choice, im actualy halfway though the conversion right now, still need an engine though

if you are intreasted in turbocharing you mazda, i sugesst you do a search on TII swaps in the this forum, but please just dont start a thread asking what you need, you probably will just get flamed
