Engine Prob......

didnt know how to search for this one so i thought i would ask first and see if anyone knows a solution.
i have an 87 TII with roughly 98k on it and i bought it about a month ago. i went through the whole thing and replaced or repaired everything that people suggested that i should on here. but the engine stutters and skips randomly whether i'm at idle, accelerating, or jus cruising.
i was jus wondering if anyone has had the same problem or knows what it is?!

any help would be much appreciated!

no clue on ur problem. but i love your sig too, although i've seen it before. it's got alot of obscure anime references in there. for instance, when he gets the cape and the big monster shoots a laser out of its mouth... that's from nausicaa of the valley of wind. classic.

you may have to be more specific about the problem. like your driving and the car misses a beat? does it stall? does it skip during hard acceleration?
check compression. even a poor man test maybe. youve got to rule out a blown apex seal. next check for ecu codes. check TPS resistance for continuity. next id check the afm for continuity.
if none of that yeilds anything, it may just be ignition related, like a bad ground or short.

well what it does specifically is that i will be driving, ie. WOT, jus cruising, or at idle and the engine skips a beat, almost like a misfire but i'm so used to a piston engine that idk if thats it. under WOT it completely dies out for jus a sec and then snaps right back to full power, like complete loss of power then back to full. also its never in a pattern it happens anytime. also idle is very rough. i replaced all vaccum hoses because most were old and brittle and i have all brand new plugs at factory gap and wires.

Stock NGKs are not gappable. What plugs do you have? And they had better not be Autolites.

autolite makes plugs for rotary engines?

i second the vacuum line and tps, prob the vacuum line. I failed emissions because somebody had adjusted the tps to pig rich at idle to make it so the stuttering didnt happend, don't know how that worked, but I adjusted back to normal tps settings, the stuttering came back, and I pulled on each vac line and found a few that were stretched..., snipped it and it instantly didnt stutter.

FYI, adjusting the tps on an s5 w/ dual tpses just disconnect the connector, put a multimeter reading ohms on the 1st two thing on the right, and find close to 1000ohms....

so i take it the vote is that its a vaccum prob or something with the tps?

does this phenomena occur at say... around.... 3800 rpm?
glad to hear about a vacuum job gone good.
hesitation at WOT... does this happen above or below 4k rpm usually... or both? cuz im thinking injectors maybe.. hell it could be alot of things. you just gotta troubleshoot it. a vacuum leak wont cause WOT hesitation unless its intermittent AND big. its either injectors or ignition if its not the 38krpm hesitation. which leads me to consider grounds as an option.
were also assuming the idle and driving hesitation are related. i believe theyre 2 different things. the idle is either vacuum leak or badly adjusted variable resistor.

chew on that.

do you know how to check a tps for resistance? its not too hard.. you just need a multimeter..

yes, i have both the Haynes and FSM and i have been doing a lot of trouble shooting with them so i should figure it out soon, went over all the hoses again and found nothing wrong, going to check the TPS and also when exactly it does hesitate (within what RPM).
all your ideas are great so keep em comin!
