Emergency Help Needed!!!

I just finished changing the rear engine oil seal, took a few days but I got it now. It's all back together.

PROBLEM: Car acts like I have the throttle floored whenever I start it.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bio-Weapon 08-12-03 04:44 PM

does it rev to 3000rpm?
if so, thats just the accelerated warmup. put the car in gear when you start it to deactivate. otherwise you may have a vacuum leak.

rx7raca 08-12-03 04:45 PM

check ur afm is connected, check that the thottle plates arent stuck open, check ur cruise control wire, there can only be couple things that would cause this, so just do a check.

one thing u could do, is have some1 start the car an u stand in the front of the car ready to close the thottle plates so it wont go to full thottle.

Bio: ........ what part of "throttle to the floor" would imply 3000 rpms???? Don't mind me, just supposed to be on my way to my girlfriends (5.25 hour drive) as we speak.

Still no luck more suggestions welcome (haven't tried them all yet either thought )

BTW, thanks to both

Did you mess with any of the throttle linkage.

Chimeron 08-12-03 05:05 PM

nope, didn't touch the throttle linkage.

i think 3000 warmup is no where near being floored, and a vaccum leak wouldnt cause this, a leak would only cause bad idle or not to start at all.

correct me if im wrong, im pretty sure this correct though

Chimeron 08-12-03 05:08 PM

rx7raca, you're correct. And since my car is trying to idle-race a ferrari, I don't think it's the vacuum leak or cold-start assist.

What is it reving up to. To the over reving buzz??????

Chimeron 08-12-03 05:14 PM

well, I won't let it get up to redline, but it wouldn't stop even if I did.

derek1987 08-12-03 05:19 PM

Once before I was checking my water thermo wax pallet and I forgot to make should the fast idler cam was on. And started the car up and it redlined.

Chimeron 08-12-03 05:20 PM

ok, the throttle body seems to be ok, I.E.: not stuck open, But that's the first time I've looked at it.

rx7raca 08-12-03 05:20 PM

like i said check those things and get back to us. play around with the thottle plates.

another question is when u start the car, do u give it gas? because if u do, then maybe ur thottle cable is getting stuck or the plates on the tb. get back to us with some info.

derek1987 08-12-03 05:22 PM

And another ??? is the gas padel to the floor or what. Not trying to be a smart ass

Chimeron 08-12-03 05:30 PM

ok, about the throttle valves, In the manual I'm looking at it shows the three in a triangle, which look ok to me, the move with the pedal appropriately. Now, what about the first two, there's two in the top positions, and an open spot at the bottom, and the two in the top seem to work in reverse, the are open and can move to close, but don't seem to work with the pedal at all. Also, nothing about them in the manual. Time to check the FSM

derek1987 08-12-03 05:39 PM

are you talk about the two throttle valves on the top. THat are towards the front of the throttle body. OR the back two

Chimeron 08-12-03 05:47 PM

the two on top towards the front, they're open in all the pictures in the fsm but it never says what they are. Oh well, not important.

derek1987 08-12-03 05:51 PM

So the the other two on the top are closed and the one on the bottom

Chimeron 08-12-03 05:52 PM

yeah, but the open with throttle like they're supposed to, can't test what happens when I turn it on though, noone here to help. It's gotta be some cable that got disconnected.

derek1987 08-12-03 05:58 PM

Now when you replace the rear engine oil seal. What did you take off of the car.

Chimeron 08-12-03 06:00 PM

If I shorted the ECU, could it do this?

derek1987 08-12-03 06:01 PM

I am unshould about that. But I do not think it would. It probably wouldn't run I would think

Chimeron 08-12-03 06:10 PM

anyone have a fuse box cover or picture of one? Or could anyone atleast tell me what fuse to pull to deactivate the Cruise Control so I can find out if that's what it is?

Scott 89t2 08-12-03 06:17 PM

it woudn't be an electrical problem uless only the tach is moving and not the engine.

otherwise your TB has to be stuff open. without air it's not gona redline.

grap the cables and pull on them. does stuff move? if not it's wide open. should be a bit of slack in the cable. pull on the cable. it's not hard to figure out if it's open or closed

Chimeron 08-12-03 06:25 PM

so let's see, you're telling me that if my cruise control got screwed up and it's trying to do 70mph (we'll just go with the last speed I set it at) then my car wouldn't redline?

Sorry, that's electrical problem in my book. I understand what you're saying though.

I've already checked the throttle valves and they look ok, I can't exactly check them though, because it won't start with the intake hose off. I'm guessing that because the AFM thinks there's no air.
