Electric Fan ??????? how many CFM, how big
please help me out i need some good cooling to my fc before i destroy it
|
seeeeeaaaarrrrrrrrrccccchhhhhhhh
|
feiro fan rocks, i had it in my TII for a year and never overheated once, it kept me cool in traffic at 90+ dagrees
|
2800cfm reco.
|
i dunno i'm from AZ and everyone out here says a good working stock fan is best, i went one better and painted mine red
P.S. ALWAYS KEEP THE FAN SHROUD and you can even mount an electric to that i've seen it done . . . fan shroud isn't there to protect your fingers (well it does that too but) |
>2500

Is your cooling system malfunctioning? Why are you looking to replace the stock fan?

I've been told that 2000cfm or higher is good enough, with a performance rad like koyo or the fluidyne. |
For all of you who do not know felixs' recent adventures, he just put his engine back in his fc, but didnt put the fan shroud on, maybe its cracked/broken, maybe you dont like it, it dont matter, just make sure if u do go efan its more than 2800cfm, id go with like 2 smaller fans at 1500-2000 each to be on the safe side, but its more money, personaly unless i am in dire need of room, shroud it is. good luck :)
|
yes the stock fan is the best over any eletric setup, but if you want to save space then go eletric but if not they stay with stock fan and shroud,i love the room with the eletric fan.. IMO
|
well the reason i wanna go to electric is im trying to clean up my engine bay, i know looks are what shouldent matter but i would like to go electric, i have a shroud i plan to put on my car(cracked fixed with epoxy)LOL that should be fine for a while... hell mabee ill just keep the stock fan
|
i would, worry about things like that last, just make sure your fan clutch works and the shroud is on there good and you'll be all set i love my stock fan
http://img239.exs.cx/img239/4189/rx703016mb.jpg dont worry my shroud is on :bigthumb: but i had to take a pic of that sweet red paint, "thats hot" |
"no fan shroud, thats not hot"
|
put it on!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
^ like i said ITS ON THERE, that pic was right as i was putting stuff back on, the shroud is there like it should behttp://img134.exs.cx/img134/9238/123...31313138pz.jpg

I love the way my engine revs without the E-Fan... but i friggin HATE the how how it runs with the E-Fan.. Even with the Koyo Rad
E-fan is GONE, stock fan is back If you got an N/A, go ahead and throw a black magic on that bad boy and you'll be cool... I'm going to switch to evans coolant before I try the e-fan again... |
lol, i'm just playin with you...

oh comeo ne why not run both types on fans come on now, you can never be to "cool" hahaha
|

i'm using a 2000cfm fan i bought at a local parts store new for $70, works great, i have it wired on all the time right now but it draws alot a current so my alt is working double time. I plan on hooking up a fan thermostat very soon so it's not constantally on

perma cool finger chopper 2800cfm

heres some B&A pics of my setup. I used a 2000cfm fan (like i said before), a SPST relay with connector, and a GM Weatherpack connector on to the fan it's self. You can see the relay because it's blue  but i plan on replacing it with a black one
Bone Stock https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...id=97586&stc=1 And the new fan setup https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...id=97587&stc=1 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...id=97588&stc=1 |
^ you there better off with the stock fan, at least the stock fan pull air through the ENTIRE RADIATOR SURFACE, shroud + aftermarket radiator + e-fan, if you drove your car out here in AZ with an electric fan setup like that without the shroud . . your car would die, and you might want to look into gettign a cone air filter . . . my Bonez/K&N filter kicks ass get one from rotary performance, well worth $120, just wait until i get my cold air box, and headlight vent set up woot woot :D
|
well, i could eather keep driving with a broken fan clutch (aka the fan doing jack shit at temp) or i could do this... which would you choose? I'm getting a Fluidine or Koyo anyway to help with the cooling. I think it will be more then efficent enough for those 20 min sessions at road courses. It's like 37* outside right now so I'm not too worried about over heating and it only get up to around 90 tops durring really hot summer days.
Oh yeah I've got a question... Would removing the A/C Condenser help the car get a little more airflow and run cooler? My compresser has never worked and the system has a small leak somewhere so i'm removing all the A/C stuff |
I use fiero fans, their shroud covers damn near the entire radiator, and it looks pretty clean when installed properly. Of course, the stock fan IS better, but for the sake of how much crap I cram in/move around/etc, it works better for me this way. Using the microtech to trigger it (hate those damn thermoswitches, always would fail on me)

A few guys here use Ford Tuarus fans. They say they do something like 3800 cfm1! :D
I have a Permacool Finger chopper sitting in my room waiting for me to fab a shroud. I also bought the Black Magic temp switch. If you aren't modding your hood/Hmount then an E-fan isn't really needed. The stock shroud has held up and can rarely be beaten. I'm kind of thinking of putting my Permacool on BUT AZ heat is something not to fuck with. |
^ indeed, i wanna see that shroud when you finish it, you your as good with fiberglass as i tihnk you are, i might have to comission you to make me a new roof . . . :D
|
wow i had no idea taurus fan moved that much, i used to have a mercury sable but i somehow broke the crank in it i should have grabbed it's fan

Actually, I would guess that they stuck their penis in the fan blades and how much it hurt on a scale of 0-5 is how many cfm it flows from 0-5000

The Ford Escort fan has a built in shrowd the covers the entire radiator like it's sock! Also, it can be picked at any junkyard for under $50 |

And you believe them? Most people wouldn't have a clue how to measure a fan's airflow or have the equipment to do so accurately, and I've yet to see a manufacturer publish this sort of data. More likely they stuck their hand in the airflow and guessed... Of course, the reason I put an E-Fan on the car was for ease working in the engine bay, plus i kept breaking fan belts. I did fix that though. |
You guys are the bomb
