-Dual Mufflers that Actually Sound Good-

No, I haven't found any, I'm asking all of you if you have.

I see no reason to pay $500+ for an Apex'i muffler if there is something cheap out there that still sounds good.

Naturally, I'm looking for a straight through, N1 design.

Apex'i = WAAAYY overpriced
Racing Beat = too expensive
Greddy = too expensive
HKS = overpriced/too expensive
tanabe hyperspec = overpriced
The
list
goes
on.

SirCygnus 05-03-04 06:50 PM

borla at nopistons.com seems to be a good price.

ddub 05-03-04 07:06 PM

N1 style? Go on ebay haha. That's where I got my dual BOMZ n1 style mufflers, 110 bucks for both of them. They are, however, extremely loud.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 05-03-04 07:20 PM

In my opinion the sweetest sounding exhaust is the RB Turboback, yes its expensisve but I think that for performance/sound its completely worth it.

HKS is worth it. I know you don't want to pay $550 for a catback, but it sounds excellent, and will keep almost anything reasonably quiet. I installed the RB header/presilencer and it's quiet at 3k RPM on the freeway, but under WOT it trips car alarms. It's very nice quality of sound - it doesn't sound all tinny and ricey like a lot of the N1 style exhausts I've seen/heard.

genII Drifter 05-03-04 09:24 PM

i got a stock single with RB headers and presilencer (Broke and no job). looks suck, sounds o.k., sounds like a baffled muffler.

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 05-03-04 09:53 PM

apexi is only 500 shipped. its like 450 at rx7store.net

Rookie84 05-03-04 09:56 PM

I love my RB turbo-back... I was thinking about swapping for a single exhaust but the great sound at WOT and how quiet it was for daily driving stopped me :)

rosey 05-03-04 10:00 PM

I was going to use a RB 3" dp, and presilencer, and then get a custom catback made using a pair of magnaflow mufflers. I would just use the full RB, but it seems like EVERYONE uses the full RB, and I want to be different(hey, I drive an rx7, whatdaya expect?)

The RB seems a little weak, and I don't want a LOUD car, but I'd like to be able to hear those rotors sing!

Rookie84 05-03-04 10:02 PM

RB is loud enough for me to hear my rotary sing :D

DEZERTE 05-03-04 10:06 PM

dont go cheap N1's shitty sound, shitty quality. Thats just my opinion, i used to have them. I switched to Greddy EVO replicas.. Burned the insulation in those within 2 weeks. With RX7's, unless u dont give a crap what your car sounds like, you should go with an "expensive" well made catback, or u will be hearing stupid loudness and such. >_<
My greddy replicas are quieter than my N1's but my girlfriends S13 has a Blitz NUR spec catback and it sounds 1000x cooler than my car.. her having a reciprocating engine might have something to do with that though...
my 2c's

gxlspeeder 05-03-04 11:08 PM

i have magnaflows, at a local "speed shop" the mufflers were 80 a piece with lifetime warranty and it was 60 and hour for them to make a custom catback. in all the price was 470, it sounds really nice

How about HP Racing? I think they have some evo replicas for under $200.

I really don't have the money to spend more than $400 in all on mufflers.

My friend has a magnaflow on his jetta and it sounds beautiful.

What kind of magnaflow did you have?

Spraintz 05-04-04 12:46 AM

I really love the sound of my Apex N1 duals, I don't feel that they are cheap quality but I also got a killer deal on the used.

good luck, have fun.

JamesWade2002 05-04-04 05:36 AM

I have a Pacesetter header (free), 2.5in pipe, and (one) magnaflow straight through muffler on the back. Flows great, sounds scary, and loud as HELL. I mean so loud your ears will bleed.

wai 05-04-04 07:23 AM

I used to have a 5 zigen single exhaust, I like the sound but it is really loud , I got so many "loud exhaust" tickets in the past 6 years. so I bought a used racing beat mufflers from a local forum last month, and weld it to my 5 zigen mid pipe , it is a quiet exhaust and I love the sound , and I feel the low end is better than before.
(I have 3.15" dp,mid pipe + and 2.15" turbo back)

Nick86 05-04-04 07:58 AM

Dynomax.

I bought my Dynomax catback 8 years ago, and it is still going strong. It came with the two cans, and a Y-pipe. The sound is fantastic, and it was quite inexpensive. The look isn't very flashy, but then neither is the price!

It has a deep sound, that is not too loud. I'd reccomend it!

ConVert 05-04-04 08:02 AM

I'm looking at an RB Cat Back Exhaust Non Turbo for $576. Is that high or not? I mean I saw the same one for like $670 so I'm not too sure.

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 05-04-04 09:01 AM

Just to let everyone know the N1 duals sound awsome. I've never heard an N1 from Apexi sound crappy unless it had an exhaust leak.

Wankel7 05-04-04 09:11 AM

I have N1s also. The full cat back. It sounds great! So deep when you are standing behind it. Just reverberates in your chest.

Everywhere I've looked has it for the same price... $576. Probably won't get lower unless you buy used.
