Dropping oil pan
 

ok so ive been reading on dropping an oil pan and im coming across 2 different stories here. some people say that dropping the subframe is necessary while some people say its not. so i was hoping a couple people would chime in on their experiences. I would jus go under the car and try it but because i work 7days (the 7 is my daily) a week im limited on time i have to work on my car.

The subframe needs to be dropped on an FD, it is not required on an FC.

I have installed the Banzai brace with the motor in the car. it's not too difficult.

You'll want a 1/4" drive 10MM swivel socket for the front cover oil pan bolts. Also, it helps to raise the engine a few inches by jacking up on the transmission.

This is one of my least favourite jobs.

I personally always use a gasket with a skim coat of RTV on each side. Everyone's method is different. Some don't use gaskets and only RTV, some don't use any RTV but use a gasket.

I installed the Banzai Pan brace in my car once... It was a difficult task.

Sounds like it possible but annoying as hell haha. hHw long dose it usually take you guys to get the job done?

I was able to get mine done, Minus RTV dry time, in about 2 hours. It was (and still is) freaking cold here in Idaho so i took the pan inside to let the RTV cure. The hardest part for me was squeezing my hand in between the axle and the pan so i could get the bolts out. Definitely do-able with minimal tools.

And the motor mount can be a pain if it doesn't line up properly.

Budget a whole afternoon just in case shit happens. Everything should be straightforward if you follow Banzai's instructions. Applying RTV while on your back might be a workout for ya, but take your time. I recommend chasing the threads with a tap before installing the new studs just to be on the safe-side.

I used Permatex ultra grey only on my pan, and so far, I still have an immaculate driveway :)

lol ill havce like a mac of 6 hours to get this done haha im tired of my driveway looking like an oil slick every day and looking at my engine bay now makes me sad (oil leaks and vented hoods = BAD )
