Actually technically speaking, you can't drift in a front wheel drive car. Drift is defined as when you apply gas to the rear wheels to control your out of control spin. Or something like that. So you can only drift in RWD or 4WD cars. And for some reason I thought FCs were hard to drift, dunno why.

I'd get some mcpherson 5way adjustable struts, some 450lb springs in the front/w perches, 375lb in rear. You can make yourself a nice coilover kit for $1100, it will be just as good as any tein 1700 but you can choose any spring rate up to 700lbs. Most coilovers the hardest setting is 375lb which is pretty weak for drifting. I wouldn't worry about power, go out and get that n/a sideways, my vert which had a slipping clutch could drift pretty dam well when I had the na in there/ no lsd. My buddy had a stock Datsun b210 4spd and he could go through nice size u turns at 40 just white smoking the tires right off, 62hp.

I think i will go with the Tein HE coilover kit. I heard they are wonderful.
They might be pricey but once i get good i will be headed to the track.
I dont want to buy the same parts more than once if I dont have too.

Leave it stock and learn to drift it that way. Car control is more important than the parts.

I got a 86 GXL and a 87 TII.

I've had the GXL for 6-7 years. It was stock for about 1.5years then I started to modify it a bit. At this point in time I'm working on swaping the TII motor into the GXL.

which do you like better?

Well the TII when I got it didnt run so I havent had a chance to drive it yet. I'm still in the process of getting everything I need to make it reliable (lol) and run properly. The GXL was a great car for the last 6 years. I have had a lot of fun with it at tracks like Heartland Park and downtown KC. With the n/a its a little easier to control the throttle, their for the drift is a little easier. But then again I cant wait to get this swap done.

Also:
Its a totally different experience from drag or road racing. Its take time to learn ur cars limits and how it drifts. Its always good to start out slower and work ur way up. A good big empty parking lot is a good place to start. Just mess around with the car. It teaches u things. Also one thing I do recommend is taking out the power steering. It allows u to feel the road better. I always hated the feel of liquid between me and the road.

I'm all into drifting, thats what I'm setting my turbo vert up for. Right now just came in for a break, I'm hooking up my wiring harness and putting my turbo on. I download alot of drift videos, as I'm sure some of you do. Do you guys ever see FC's drifting, cause the ratio between 240's and FC's is probably about 200 to 1 that I've noticed. My town it's like 240 240 240 240 240 240, then my rx7 and my buddies TII.

lol, stock for stock oh yeah. A 2000 toyota corolla handles better, don't get me wrong they are sweet cars once modded (sr20). The sway bar is like 12mm.

I guess your right. Well i was doin that shit with my parents cars before I ever heard of sport drifting, just thought it was cool to hear the screech of the tires. Especially when its wet and take a few seconds for the fronts to grip again and you experience that floating feeling.

Well actually u can drift a FF. I've seen it done on Option Vids. All u gotta do is use the e-brake. Its not as easy as it looks, but FR and AWD are much easier.

Ok ur old enough to drift.

^What does age have to do with it? I went out in my 87 sport when i was 16 and i tore up the track with a open diff/ broken diff mount and a 1 inch gap between my header and precat and a bad exhaust manifold and i still got it sideways and by the end of the drift day i was hitting the track and sliding around and not spinning out As much ;) btw the car was stock and on my balogna cutters. Then i went out in my 88 GTU when i turned 17 and wow it was fun going around the track but my clutch completely died so i cut the day short. Btw it was drift day at california speedway.

im still 16. looking for tracks to practice on, i think im gonna compete at the next drift event here, its june 27th. dont really care if i embarass myself by spinning out or not, i see the drift even more as a practice since there is not many other ways to practice here in colorado except the streets. plus i still got a lot of time to get some more suspension parts
