Doesnt start?

Hey, new problem with my fc :(. Sometimes it wont start. When I turn the key to the start position everything goes off, and sometimes i will hear a fast clicking noise. I am not sure but doesnt that mean there is a bad ground connection somewhere? And how would I go about finding it, because I dont know where any of the under-the-good grounds are. Thanks in advance.

sounds like your battery is dead or has bad connections at the posts

I hope the battery is not dead i just bought it, but I will check the connections at the terminals. Also, if I am driving with the lights and radio on, and I step on the brake pedal, the radio cuts out on me. I am tired of resetting my stations every other day.

What does the voltmeter read when driving???

It should be above 13.5 volts, and anytime it is under 12.6 volts the car is running on the battery.

You may have a bad alternator as well if your voltage is low

the voltage is usually at 14, but when i run the lights it goes to 12, and if i turn on the heater it hits 8..

+1

check the voltage while car is running from the battery terminals as well as from the + terminal on the alt. to the - on the battery.......you should be seeing over 12.6

If the battery any alternator are fine, what would cause my problem?

classicauto 04-25-06 02:11 PM

Given the post that states the drop in the voltage I would suspect your alternator...

But if the battery and alternator were in perfect working order it would more than likely be the connections at the starter being loose or dirty

Icemark 04-25-06 04:56 PM

Yep, if the voltage is dropping under 12 volts, the alt is bad or the connections to the alt is bad.

But it would be doubtful that it would be the connections if it only drops under load. Dropping underload, means a bad alt.

If there is not even 13.5 volts, the battery will not charge. The battery needs at least .9 volts more than its own voltage to gain a charge.

^ Yup, I agree with them. Check your alternator.

How can I check the alternator?

Villision_Motorsports 04-26-06 01:29 AM

Check the grounds on the starter I had that problem before and its was a faulty ground wire on the back of the top starter bolt lol you know how long it took me to find that problem hah!!!
