Disassemble the shift lever assembly?

I have a s5 shifter and a s4 shifter. The problem is, the s5 doesn't fit my s4 knob and the s4 has no bushings. I want to take the bushings off of the s5 shift lever and put it on the s4. Is there a way to actually get the shifter off of the bottom part (with the ball on it)? It looks like they may be machined together somehow.

I tried to search google, here and my haynes guide, but no avail.

TIA. :icon_tup:

What do you mean when you say the S4 has "no bushings?" The bushings (which sit in the extension housing - what you screw the shifter into) are the same between the two shift levers.

On the s5 one there's 2 round plastic washer type pieces. On the s4 there's none of them.

I will snap a pic later and post it. The car and trannys are in a different location.
