Diff. between ECU and CPU?

i went searching for tha CPU in my car (it is an aftermarket put there by the previous owner. and i found it under the passesger seat carpeting. It is a box as big as my opened hand and it says autothority on it. now, i have a few questions.

what exactly is the difference between a CPU and an ECU?
Is Autothority and aftermakrket? is it a CPU or an ECU?
Best to have a seprerate ECU and CPU?

Thats the ECU under the passenger side carpet. The stock one is mounted almost under the dash, you said yours was under the seat?

The ECU controls the engine spark timing and fuel delivery.

The CPU is located next to the fuse box on the drivers side. right behind the hood release. This controls all other electronics in the car (lights, p windows, security, stereo, etc.)

The Authority ECU is surely aftermarket.

I find it interesting that I went to their site and it looks like they don't even sell ECU's for Mazda vehicles.
