Convertible owners
hey just wanted to see who were the vert owners on the forum and get some info on how you all modified your car. what stuff did you put on it, suspension, speed, body kits, etc...
I have a 90 N/A and just got it from a guy who put a full exhaust it think, and magnecore wires. car has only 38k miles and is in awesome shape. i gonna repaint it some type of extremely bright white or something. hope to see what yall got done on yer verts!! please post pictures if you have em. I have a 88 with cats replaced with strait pipe, no powersteering
|
I just bought one two days ago, dont think I'm gonna modify it, just drive it for the summer and then sell it, got the TurboII and the FD as well anyways..
|
wow no one really speeds up their verts?
|
replaced the pre-cat with a downpipe, performance main catalytic converter, HKS catback exhaust, tuneup, etc..
Note the downpipe is more of a reliability upgrade. I'd highly recommend replacing the exhaust & cats around 85K miles as that's when it starts to get clogged. One of my vert friends has a roll cage, ported engine, performance chip that works with the ported engine, 87 TII wheels, intake, etc.. One of the vert owners on the forum has the mariah mode 5 widebodykit, 3 rotor turbo conversion, etc.. and is pushing 350+HP. Lot's of opions to choose from :) |
88 Vert 100000kms T2 Rims, RB Down Pipe, presilencer and hdss clutch!
Intake comeing not sure what after that. Craig |
'90 vert - Started stock then -
Bonez Superflow cat, dynomax cat-back, MD Racing ECU, Bonex Intake, Eibach Pro springs, Tokiko 5 way shocks. This setup was a little quicker than a stock coupe. I got hungry for a car that was going to be even faster at autocross, so I shaved off 700 lbs, ditched 60hp, painted it Montego Blue, and started living with the 'chic car' stigma. |
Can I ask how you shaved 700 pounds off your vert?
|
'vert - 700lbs - 60hp + MB paint + 'chic car' stigma = Miata :p:
|
"wow no one really speeds up their verts?"- speeding up verts sound like an oxymoron...
fromm my experience.. unless u have a T2 or an FD.. u really cant go FAST on a vert.. vert is just for having LOTS AND LOTS OF fun and excitement in the sun=) which is definately good.. but.. for speed.. its show.. and no go. |
Magnecor KV85, RB header, Bonez H/F cat, Dynomax cat back. I had just added these components, under 1k miles ago, progressively. I had to first make sure that every single part and accessory was replaced or working properly. I had spent more money restoring it, then modifing it. All parts are OEM spec from Mazda...no aftermarket Kragen shit here...!!!
I have plans for more but, I am now looking to sell it. I want to go back to a T2...I was going to do the T2 swap....but, for speed...need more of a solid, lighter chassis. |
Just got a 88 vert last week. Stock exhaust, 95K miles. No other mods except a Bazooka bass tube in the trunk. I found last years emission test in the glovebox, it barely passed HC. Wondering if a downpipe and performance cat will allow it to pass the Maryland smog test?
|
i have a 88 vert with full racing beat exhaust,91 intakes, and K&N filter thats just the major mods not including wires and other minor mods im looking to either supercharge or go with a 75 shot of nitrous not sure yet but when winter comes again time for a street port love the speed but could never give up my vert
|
Hey "go speed go" did the ecu make much of a difference thinking of that myself?
Thanks |
I've got an '88 too.
Complete TII Drivetrain Transplant, Series 5 Turbo & Injectors, Haltech F9, K&N CAI, Upgraded EFI Fuel Pump, Custom Twin 3" Exhaust, Simmons S4 Wheels, AudioVox 10-Stacker. Pix (including Engine Bay) at the link below. Cheers, Dave |
91 Vert as stock as it gets...
oh, wait. I did add a cupholder awhile back <g>. Speed is great and all... but I mainly bought it for it's looks. Maybe I'm getting too old.... |
what kinda of power gain am I looking at if I upgrade my 88 vert with stock exhust to a full racing beat exhust?
|
88 - Pure stock, bought new, now in storage.
89 - 20 B conversion in process 90 - LS1 (That is a all aluminum Chevy Banger) - Let the flames begin - |
I just supercharged mine with the nelson/paxton kit.
Cupholder is next. Lars |
White '89 Turbo II Cabriolet (European name for Convertible - only sold as Turbo II in Europe)
Ported engine Uprated oil pressure regulator Baffled sump K & N freeflow filter/cold air feed Racing Beat 3" downpipe into 3" presilencer 3" into 2 x 2.5" 'Y' pipe 2 x 2.5 " freefow silencers (U.K. build) Rechipped ECU Centreforce clutch Tokiko Illumina top adjustable struts Eibach 'Pro-Sport' progressive rate springs Polyurethane suspension bushes Racing Beat sway bars with Mazdatrix adjustable links RH Alurad 17" x 8" wheels with Yokohama A520 215/Z45R17 tyres Goes a bit around bends, as the guy on the big BMW bike rider found out the hard way yesterday when he tried to race me on a very curvy road :) Also scares the shit out of smaller Porsches (ditto) Needs more power on the straights as I get killed by TVR's (300+ BHP/ton U.K. muscle car - these would blow any old crapazoidal overweight underhandling Yank tank (Mustang etc.) into the weeds :) - just be glad you don't see these in the U.S.A - they go like shit off a shovel on straights and corner like they are on rails on curves) - working on the power. |
hehe everyone i speak to says get the eibach pro kit springs, and the tokico 5 way adjustables. im gonna get those and prolly an air filter.

Lars,
How much did that cost, when you were all finished? (For the supercharger and installation and all the peripheral parts that got upgraded?) Thanks, been toying with that and wondered what the actual outlay would be? |
