there is the ECU the CPU and the power steering computer
the ECU is under the carpet on the passenger side it is your brain for your car
the CPU is your brain for functions like your warning lights horn and car alarm
your power steering computer is self exclamatory
ECUs are swapable as long as they are in the same series (s4 s5) and are the same induction (turbo or non)

An 86 GXL computer is not an "upgrade" for your car, and will not do anything different than your current computer. Also, the GXL has the same injectors as your car, so there will be no "upgrade" there, either.

fc injector sizes - NA - 460 cc's all 4 injectors
Turbo- 550cc's all 4 injectors
if you dont have the mods or a ported motor then its not a wise choice to swap turbo injectors....
also i didnt clarify that all swapable ecu's are the same... meaning there are no differences in ecus although it is rumored (no hard evidence) that the automatic ecu has different fuel and timing maps

YOUR best bet is to just keep what you got and drive on

All of the 2Gen non-turbo injectors have the same flow rate (approx 460cc/min). The only difference is that the earlier injectors had a different impedance. More info here:

ah ha ha ha

I suggest you go buy a Haynes manual, the primary injectors are under the intake manifold. You really sound like maybe you shouldn't be playing with that kind of thing yet until you learn some more. Also changing the computer doesn't do a damn thing. Computer only controls idiotlights and blowers and such. Changing the ECU makes a difference.

But lets clarify that the ECU swap he mentioned won't do anything different.

You can have your ecu "upgraded" by a few places. Just do a search for "ECU upgrade."

If it's free, just take it. Never know what you'll want to do in the future after becoming more educated on the rotary.

The ECUs that you are comparing are the same. There is no upgrade from a different car/model/ect that will be an upgrade. Only way to get an upgraded ECU is to send yours out to be upgraded or to go with an aftermarket standalone ECU(big $$$$).

www.corksport.com has EL Prototypes I believe even though they don't have it on their site for our cars.

www.nopionline.com has JET ecu upgrades.

www.mdrace.com has an ecu upgrade(their site is currently down though).
