Closing Heater Core

My 2 logicons arent working. Is there a way to close the heaters?

RXSpeed16 04-03-14 11:19 AM

What do you mean close? You can block off the coolant flow to the core or manually change the temperature by moving the air mix control rod under the dash.

Or are you talking about the recirculate function?

Keep the hot coolant out of the core. Its warm here now and my feet are getting roasted.

Looking up at the hvac from the driver's side footwell, you should see the mechanism in the attached picture. As practice, print out the picture and tape it to the bottom of a chair. Now try to look at it while sitting on the chair. That's the posture you'll need during the initial investigation.

The "tape to the chair" idea is brilliant.
He could bring the chair with him to the car...it'd be like an Ikea notepad.

I have investigated and looking at the mechanism it looks like there is some sort of plunger that goes up and down to open and close. I tried to move it and it doesn't seem to budge. Is it because of the electronic motor?

ok, in the bottom left of your second pic, you see whats holding in the little aluminum rod? its hard to describe but its the plastic thing on the end of it? if you look closely you can see how it holds the rod in place. you need to rotate it away from the rod. one half is open, and one is closed. youll see what i mean when you stick your head in there again.

btw, these are the same as door lock rod clips. if you google it youll see a pic of them from all sides and instantly understand how they work.

rotate the clip to free the rod. then adjust the flapper door however you see fit (hot/cold)
