steve

RacerXtreme7 03-19-08 01:34 PM

LOL^^

Why chop an already low and sleek car???

NJGreenBudd 03-19-08 02:24 PM

are you talking about the el camino chop? like the truck a suraus thing on here. I'll try to find the thread for ya....

Like this maybe:

ROAR!!!...Truckasaurus RX7 Madness!!!...SUNDAY...Sunday...sunday!!!...

classicauto 03-19-08 02:25 PM

that'd be one fucked up rear window.

No I believe he's reffering to a hotrod chop

NJGreenBudd 03-19-08 02:34 PM

oh I was thinking like the truck back styled silvias...

The FC's are already pretty low in the roof aren't they??

I see now, yeah if you chopped the 7 you would need to stick your head out of the sunroof to see. that would be crazy.

teddyrx2 03-19-08 03:39 PM

that would be pretty different and i think it would look pretty cool

Funkspectrum 03-19-08 03:44 PM

There's a chop top S4 vert running around here in Santa Rosa. Looks like complete shit.

skatingsamurai 03-19-08 05:16 PM

im talking about the whole roof. i saw a silvia with it done...looked 1000 times more aggressive. and i really think that if this was done to a hatchback cleanly it wouldn't "disrupt" the lines at all. it would just enhance it. i mean you cant deny that the dodge on the bottom (which is PS'd) looks like it wants to eat your babies while you sleep it so mean looking. be that as it may i also believe that it would be easier to achieve on a vert.

im more just curious if anyone has had any first hand experience with this.

one word, PHOTOSHOP!

ForsakenRX7 03-19-08 05:25 PM

Its undoable on a hardtop rx7. Yea you could chop it, but it would require sectioning the roof, sloping the windsheild, and a whole bunch of other little tedious time consuming things. Then you get to the back glass and realize your fooked!
Best example I can come up with is google for the chop top fieros. Lot of work for a certain look.

First off it’s a 4 door car, so right off the bat it should be sent to a car crusher at a junkyard (if it was even real). Secondly it looks like a car that a mobster bought for his wife to get the kids and groceries in. You know what, its not worth talking about.:icon_tdow

WTF?! Pics?

Aaron Cake 03-19-08 06:11 PM

I've seen it on a 1st gen, but never a 2nd gen. Sorry, no pictures.

But as others have said, headroom is already limited.

Derek King 03-19-08 07:33 PM

i have seen the s15 chopp. it was sexy i must say even tho s15s look like fuckin grand am's. there is no room in a fc for that shit tho.

I can't for the life of me find the pic of that s15 chop top. i think for those who have not yet seen it, it might change their mind.

i think this would be a better example. though it is photoshop'd. now if you say that this is not cool looking, you're a complete freakin homo.

Last I checked all chop top cars have custom glass.

:squint: Of course not.

He chop topped his Civic for that purpose. Then put lowering springs, and the all important green neons under the body to blend right into the crowd after the hit.

:dunno: .... GTFO?

There is a reason that it was doable on old american cars: They were fuckin huge! There was enough room to fit a sumo wrestler in the back seat! also, the cars had really high positioned, and poorly designed bench seats, high ride height, and there was no concern for "weight".

Nowadays, most cars are designed to make the car as light as possible, and use the least material as posible to do what you want with the design. So, in a modern-ish car like the FC, the roof is already as low as it should go.

Oh, and that C5 looks like an old person's ass! You must be

"a complete freakin homo"
if you DO like it!

The DRFT D1 S15 has a chop top, looks bad ass, but not exactly easy to do. would require custom glass all the way around and fabbing up the pillars to line up. You'd have to get some buckets that can be mounted extremely low, because I'm only 5' 10" and have to lean the seat back more than what I'm used to to keep my head from hitting the roof.

Just go do a search for the DRFT S15 to find some more pics of it somewhere on the net.

DriftN7 03-20-08 12:15 AM

i think it would look stupid

I agree. Now a chop top FD on the other hand...

I'm just kidding, do what you want with your FC. As previously stated, mount the seats very low and take a hacksaw to that sucker. Just don't do it on a good condition FC, at least not to start with. But most importantly, take lots of pictures!

tecknomage 03-20-08 01:37 AM

i hope your shorter then 5 ft tall because i barley fit in my vert at 6 foot and thats with the seat extremely broken in

No, it depends on how the chop is done. Not to mention it goes differantly for every type of car. An experienced chop artist can usually retain as much original glass as possible to cut down on cost. Although some cars you have no choice and all factory glass must be ditched.
The older cars were great. The had flat glass, thick steel which was less prone to warping, and tons of head room originally so you could really hammer the lid down.
Sorry I've got an affection for old kustoms.I'd trade my 7 for a 50 ford coupe quick.

rotorpower27 03-23-08 12:06 AM

here yah go, im not going to give you my opinion though....:Wconfused

skatingsamurai 03-23-08 01:38 AM

wow. totally sucks on a stock looking car. to much of a chop too.

mylove=88rxseven 03-23-08 12:02 PM

yeah bring the top back up a little, add some wheels, lower it put, on a smooth aero kit and it might look sick.i would chop one but i dont have photoshop

fc10a3 03-23-08 01:28 PM

kinda of looks like a supra, imo

introVert 03-23-08 01:33 PM

I was totally gonna say that:D

magus2222 03-23-08 02:07 PM

imagine doing that to a s30. saw it, i dont know how much smaller you can get that car. specially ours, WAY too small.

peace

rotorpower27 03-23-08 03:57 PM

alright, yes it does look better with a moded car.

three shots.
a, stock ( someone on this forum will be thinking "hey that looks like my car...)
b, lowered ( more than is reasonable)
c, chop ( head would be hitting sheet metal after a mile of driving, or you would have to lean back so far the steering wheel would be all that you see)

skatingsamurai 03-23-08 04:27 PM

raise it just a hair, and make the wheels 1 inch bigger. : )

magus2222 03-23-08 04:27 PM

ya, ew.
if you want a chop top, take a 52 merc, or a 68 muscle car (pick one)

peace

MidnightOwl 03-23-08 05:09 PM

IMO, it doesn't look that bad. It's not very practical, but if you were building a show car or a fancy drift car, it would be pretty neat and different. I definitely would be able to do it, me being 6'6" tall.

mylove=88rxseven 03-23-08 05:28 PM

yeah that is better but roof could still go up a tad not much just a tiny

no, no,. thats all you get, next picture ill send you a bill. lol

really though, if you chop the top, the hood just looks way too big

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 03-23-08 06:17 PM

thats pretty good. doesn't look to bad. probably would cost a lot or take up a lot of time.

that would be pimp

philiptompkins 03-23-08 08:44 PM

you'd have to dropt the seat to the pavement.

MmSadda 03-23-08 09:04 PM

never seen one, but it sounds unattractive. The photoshopped pics here don't make it sound any better.

Plus, doing the hatch/glass would be a bitch.

dean23 03-23-08 09:42 PM

might as well buy a delorean
