I knew that my link was to Carbon Apex seals, but I was hard pressed to believe someone had actually made Carbon Fiber Apex seals... anyways I believe this discussion has been covered...

carbon brakes on a race car are NOT the same thing as carbon fiber. Race cars use brake rotors that are almost 90%-100% pure carbon molded and machined like normal brake rotors ion conjunction with carbon brake pads. carbon fiber is exactly that. carbon strands held together with an epoxy.
1- the epoxy would melt 2- the strands would frey 3- yes carbon fiber does warp under extreme heat hope this helps dispel any question of reliability of CF apex seals. one more thing. Carbon is extremely abrasive and would chew the inside of your housings apart. TR |
