Exclamation can anyone help with a title question

Heres the deal, I got an 89 rx without a title, now i do not know the previous owner nor can I contact them. The car is not stolen it was just sold as a parts car without title, but it was a simple fix to make it a driving car. BTW I live in NY.

So any advice?

Thanks

Hope the person whose name is on the title doesn't want the car back. Very bad idea to get a car back into shape without having the title. You are aware that technically the car still belongs to somebody else.
I suggest you contact the person who you got the car from, or at least go to motor vehicle for some assistance.

You can get a new title issued. Just go to the DMV and explain the situation. They -should- be able to help you.

good luck

Not that easy in NY. Previous owner of my house left a car, I needed to get a salvage title just to junk it. DMV has some kind of abandoned car/no know owner form but not sure if you can register it with that. Check the NYDMV website, they have all the forms online:
