BNR Stage 4 (searched)

My question about the BNR Stage 4 is this...is it possible to run the stage 4 with an Rtek 1.7 and proper fuel and mods to match, and still get descent power output? I've searched and not found this question asked, so I was hoping someone would be able to help me.

hmm..i think its possible..but you would still need a bigger pump and larger than 720 injectors then maybe safc or e-manage to control those injectors....

DylanShupe 04-01-05 02:04 AM

Well, I'm having a Walbro 255lph pump installed during the rebuild, along with 720 secondaries. If/when I get the Stage 4, I had planned on moving the 720s to primaries, and probably getting something closer to 1000cc secondaries. I also have an SAFCII to be isntalled, along with a boost controller. I still need to get piping for my front mount though.

I ran the stage 4 on a stock ECU with an SAFC.

I got pretty good results, although now that I am on the Haltech, the spool is MUCH better.

DylanShupe 04-01-05 02:12 AM

What size injectors were you running j-rat?

J-Rat 04-01-05 02:38 AM

2x720s and 2x890s

DylanShupe 04-01-05 02:51 AM

What did you mean by the spool being much better too? Meaning it was quicker?

J-Rat 04-01-05 03:38 AM

Of course.. Once you get the AFM out of the way, spool always picks up.

SonicRaT 04-01-05 03:46 AM

Yeah, that's one awful big wheel for the stock ecu...

apreludem 04-01-05 05:32 AM

i died a little inside when he told me this :-p

hondahater 04-01-05 06:47 AM

you know if this is the case then I may put my afm in the line with my fmic so that the turbo can spool better then, hum......... something to think about. I guess I could just cut the wires about 3 or 4 inches from the afm plug and then just spice in longer wires. Ideas ideas.

torean 04-01-05 09:48 AM

sounds interesting....would this work?....i mean before the turbo the pressure is 1atm but after the turbo its >1 atm.....wouldnt it make the afm readings inaccurate?

hondahater 04-01-05 10:06 AM

there has been lots of people that used to do this a while back, and they said it worked just fine with pretty good gains in throttle responce, my guess because the turbo can spool better?

ilike2eatricers 04-01-05 11:47 AM

Look up some pics of JDM engine bays. Some of them have moved the AFM to the driverside of the engine bay. Not sure how it really works but they have done it and apparently it works according to previous posts.

bcty 04-01-05 01:08 PM

someone did this a bit ago i cant remember who but it led to a new engine.. and a few driveability issues

J-Rat 04-01-05 02:20 PM

I cant imagine how relocating the AFM could help. Its still a flap, its still a restriction, and its still in your intake path.

What do you know, Clown?

DylanShupe 04-01-05 11:30 PM

Well, I believe I'll go with the Stage 4 now. Probably use it along with an Rtek 1.7 and an SAFCII. Thanks for all the input guys.

J-rat, did you ever get a dyno with the stage 4 before you got the standalone?

If you're dead set on staying with the stock ecu go with the e-manage and a couple of extra injectors welded onto the second and third intake runner. You can retard the timing with the e-manage as well, don't bother with the rtek.

I don't know this is how I have it now (rtek, safc) and my stage 1 worked just fine and now I'm putting in a stage III and talked to brian and he said it will work just fine and he is going to be using rtek and safc, so I see nothing wrong with using this combo. I would like to learn the emanage because the functionality of it is way past that of a safc but there is nothing wrong with the technology of the rtek 1.7 for timing and the safc for fuel. He shouldn't need additional injectrors either a 720/1000 combo should do the trick. Go hear and check out how much hp you are shooting for and what injectors you will need http://rx7.com/cgi-local/2ndgencalc.cgi good luck

gsracer is correct though an emanage would better for functionality and will allow additional injectors as well as retard the timing and it can all be monitored and changed on a laptop.
