"blocking off" omp without removing it

Is it safe to just take out the banjo bolts and put regularr bolts in there place?

By safe, I mean, it's not going to cause wierd pressure of flow probems for the oil.

WHY? Just take it out and get a block off plate. They cost less than $10

Mankdrake 2661 07-09-07 05:35 PM

Do you have to remove the little shaft to use the block off plate?

psychotic7 07-09-07 06:24 PM

you remove everything associated with the pump....if you have no pump then why would you leave the shaft?

Mankdrake 2661 07-09-07 06:47 PM

I was thinking that you have to take off the front cover to remove that shaft.

I think you're right. The front cover does need to be removed to release that shaft. I'm pretty sure that most people who block off the OMP just leave it there. It will want to slide back and forth, so people put a couple of dimes on top of the shaft before covering it with the block off plate, so as to keep it in place.

i've never had any issues from leaving the shaft in place or from not using shims to keep it from moving back and forth.

If you remove the shaft from the front cover, your gonna need to fill the oil galley with JB stick weld because the oil pressure drop off would be too great.
