Are you sure its not just your speed sensitive steering working? Like, after those few minutes, are you driving above 35-40mph, or is it under any condition?

Edit: I didn't see about the beeping deal. My initial posting is probably not right then

its under any condition but its wierd cus sometime it will soften up on its own and then go back to were i can barly turn it in the city driving

Maybe a bad power steering pump ? Im just guessing...only other thing I can think of is you have a leak on the powersteering rack causing it not to work properly...but if that was the case the level of your powersteering fluid would be low.

The beeping indicates a fault in the ps system. Download the 87 FSM, link is in my sig line. Section 10B covers troubleshooting and repair of the ps system. Section 15, page 87-90 covers trouble shooting and diagnosis of the ps computer and what fault the beep code indicates.

While the previous guesses may have some merit, that's all they are is guesses. A logical step by step diagnostic approach is the best course of action, otherwise you can end up throwing new parts, time and money at the problem until it's 'accidentally' fixed.

rlse2003 07-24-07 03:09 PM
