Screw extractors are great to get the existing bolt out, if it works theres no need to tap it and die it.

Just drill a small hole for the extractor to grab, and your set. Penetrating lube first is always a good idea. Space may be limited, guaranteed to be a pain in the ass. I would try and keep everything the same size, if possible.

I used those drill bits to take out my broken seized bolts :)

Get some left handed drill bits. They will usually spin out the bolt, but if not you have your hole for the extractor.

Removing broken bolts is a learned skill so if you have not done it before, practice on something worthless before you ruin a good assembly. :)

The only real option is to drill out the center and then use an extractor (DO NOT BREAK THE EXTRACTOR IN THE BOLT!) or a reverse drill. If you can't get the broken bolt out, then you will need to drill it out to the size of the hole and retap or use a HeliCoil.

I forked over the money to get a snap on stud remover set. They lock on to the threads so that they turn the bolt and work quite well. And aaron is right it is a learned skill.

It's even more of a pain when you realize your drill won't fit anywhere in the engine bay...

use a screw extractor, if you can.
