Best Psi

I just got a boost controller and i was just wondering how many psi everyone is running so i know about what psi i should set mine at..

fastrotaries 07-04-03 05:46 PM

what are your mods? i wouldn't go past 10 psi on stock stuff. But we need more info.

88mazdarx7turbo 07-04-03 05:50 PM

i just got my T2 and all i have on it so far is just a apexi exhaust ...3" piping all that stuff

darkwaveboi 07-04-03 05:50 PM

8psi max

fastrotaries 07-04-03 06:22 PM

3" piping from where? can you please be more vague. thanks

88mazdarx7turbo 07-04-03 09:34 PM

3" piping from the headers..no cat

Scott 89t2 07-04-03 10:04 PM

ummm.. ok... from the turbo? you have a down pipe?

still 8-9 psi max or your engine will blow

do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? get that first.

then get a bigger fuel pump. walbro 255 is good. around $100 off ebay.

n4ji 07-05-03 12:23 AM

I'd say no more then 8. Anything over that and you're bound to hurt something. Might look into buying a FCD instead of fooling around with the psi?

fastrotaries 07-05-03 01:46 AM

was the FCD defensor covered in "all that stuff" I don't know what that package included! IF you don't have this please do this next.

yeah. withot an FCD, your motor will go KABOOM!!!!! if you turn up the boost

importboi22 07-05-03 04:07 AM

or go boom if you go to high

88mazdarx7turbo 07-05-03 06:04 PM

ok thanks alot.. im only 16 so i dont know a whole lot bout this stuff.but o well i will learn

n4ji 07-05-03 06:52 PM

Ha... 16.. You have a great car for being a beginning driver. Consider yourself lucky, just don't be like most 16 year olds and wrap your TII around a telephone pole.

88mazdarx7turbo 07-05-03 09:03 PM

haha i will try not to.. my car is mint.. 55k miles black perfect interior.. trust me i wont be stupid

$150FC 07-05-03 09:08 PM

you're already being stupid. get rid of the boost controller and get a walboro and an S-AFC.

88mazdarx7turbo 07-05-03 10:09 PM

well sorry like i said im 16 so i dont exactly have alot of money to spend on parts but i did already order a walbro 255 like scott said and im lookin for a nice fcd..so hey give me a break..ive done all this in the last week

darkwaveboi 07-05-03 10:16 PM

after you get the fuel pump you can up the boost to .7bar (~10psi). Thats what i ran on my engine w/ walbro 255. make sure you get a boost gauge though before you ever boost..those S4 wastegates are deadly

WookeysRX7 07-05-03 10:44 PM

Well, i can hit 12 psi on my turbo with stock internals but i have my ecu chipped.....I am kinda scared to hit the 12 though. I will hit 10 and maybe 11 with out sweatin but as soon as i get up there i am like damn time to let off the gas.....I NEED A BIGGER FUEL PUMP!!!!
:(

88mazdarx7turbo 07-06-03 10:30 AM

yea i already have a autometer boost guage

Jaared 07-06-03 12:58 PM

how much boost can i run with...

S4 87 TII stock turbo and IC

hks 3" DP
3" to the stock Y... then stock piping back to dual fart cans.
Cone filter/cold air box
walbro
HKS PFC F-CON with FCD
boost gauge

have MBC but dont think ill need it to up the boost. I may have to find a way to keep boost down.

so whats the safe limit for this setup. i was told the F-CON is good to 14 psi.. but i dunno.

Even if you don't want to raise the boost anymore than the overflowing wastegate is giving you, the mbc will help with spool up time so I'd stick it on there.

The walbro richens things up quite nicely. You'll hear all kinds of reports as to what is a 'safe' psi to run. The answer is: there is no real answer. Every car is going to be slightly different. Not every car has it's injectors flowing nice and cleanly, fuel pressure after the walbro is probably different on some cars as well. I ran 11 pounds on the dyno and my a/f numbers will still in the mid 11's virtually the entire run. I had people tell me I'd blow up my car at that amount of boost with just the walbro.

The fconn is a nice unit, but I would get a pair of 720's reagardless. The fconn won't be able to richen anything up if the stock system if already maxed out.

88mazdarx7turbo 07-06-03 02:26 PM

how much for the fcd?

Aaron Cake 07-06-03 02:44 PM

Generally speaking, new owner + 3" exhaust + FCD + boost controller = blown engine.

Best bet is to keep the boost stock until you learn a little more and can make some informed decesions about modding the car. If you MUST do some modding, get a larger fuel pump (Walbro as mentioned) and a larger set of secondary injectors (720s) to be safe.

$50 shipped. It's a home-made unit made by someone else on the forum, but he is an electrical engineer. sh
