Basic Mods, which Rtek?

I'm going to do the basic mods to my 87 turbo II

K&N filter with airbox delete, stock inlet duct to turbo
Racing Beat Rev II turbo back (full catless exhaust)
Ported wastegate with stock turbo
Stock motor, all else stock no plans for future mods

I don't have time or experience to tune, gotta be plug and play. I'm thinking 1.7 or 1.8 with 550/720. If you are running this all input is appreciated. I've scanned the forums but don't see a clear answer.
Thanks
Jim

Rtek 1.7 will be fine by itself up to about 12psi. Which is about the limit you should be pushing the stock turbo to anyway.

Thanks rotaryrocket88, I've seen your other posts and it looks like you understand this well.

So no need for the 720's, how about the FD pump?

Thanks
Jim

Oops just checked the digital tuning site, looks like I will need the 720's for the secondaries. It looks like you were running a 1.7 before, did you like it?
What is the best route to go for 720's (brand and set up)?
Thanks again
Jim

its gonna be hard to find 720s, RC makes 750s though.. you run a bit rich but it works

Yeah, an FD pump or larger will be needed. The stock TII pump starts to run out of steam when you're running higher boost.

The 1.7 is a nice, easy setup. All the little features end up being very useful.

720s are common. Denso makes them, and they're sold under the Greddy name.

gsxranger 06-09-09 07:11 PM

Are the Greddy 720's a straight drop in, or do you need to add resistors?
Thanks
Jim

RotaryRocket88 06-09-09 07:18 PM

Denso makes the stock fuel injectors, so yes, they are an exact fit. They'll also be low impedance, so you'll need to figure out if you have an early or late '87 car. If you have a resistor pack by the air box, you're set. If not, you would wire in 2 resistors for the secondaries.

gsxranger 06-09-09 08:58 PM

Sweet, what does the resistor pack look like?
Also, did you sell that Walboro?
Thanks
Jim

Hypertek 06-09-09 09:44 PM

get 1.5 for now, than upgrade later, its only like 15-20 bucks.

Im 1.5 now, whenever i get bigger injectors than ill upgrade.

boostinfc3s 06-09-09 09:51 PM

when i was running rtek i had a hell of a time looking for 720s, and when i did find them the price was outrageous.

Found a picture on Aaron's site: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/intake3.jpg

I still have the walbro.

And the 1.5 technically will give you the same fuel as the 1.7, even though the 1.7 uses 720cc secondaries. The difference is the secondaries are able to run at much lower duty cycles, so they aren't so taxed all the time. The biggest help to fuel delivery will be the fuel pump.

gsxranger 06-09-09 11:45 PM

Awesome, I have the pack, it is just bolted in a different spot than Aaron's, it looks like he moved it to fit his cone filter on. (what does he know anyway- ha ha!).
Looks like I'm obligated to buy your Walboro for all your great advice. If you'd like just PM me your email and I'll paypal you or however you want it.
Thanks a bunch
Jim

It would be very foolish to not have a wideband. They have gotten cheap enough that there is no excuse not to have one. While the Rtek "should" be safe, everybody's setup is different. Don't just blindly install it and cross your fingers.
