Bad Coil Spings?
Querstion. If I press down on my front left fender, and there is a groaning noise coming from the area of the strut mount, however, i replaced the strut mount, could it be a bad coil spring? when I lift up on the fender after pressing down on it, the fender rises up a bit, and the groaning noise happens again.. Any ideas?

1. cut the wheel all the way in the direction of the suspected bad strut/spring.
2. try to do a power brake or just like a slow doughnut, if the sound emits, it is the strut. The groaning sound is most likely a strut, the coil springs will make a popping sound. When you replace the strut, check the spring anyways to see if it is warped/bent/mishaped. |
Hey, thanks guys. Im gonna check the strut... JOhn

Might want to check the bushings on the lower control arm also. The factory oil cooler lines are known to start leaking when they get older and they are near the front bushings. The oil will eventually break down the rubber.

My 91 suspension groans & clunks. It's due for new bushings. Your 85 may be over-due for bushings.
