backfire problem
well while i was at school (during lunch) one of my freinds wanted to se me drift and do some donuts in the parking lot of the school so i do a couple, and him being completly clueless when it comes to cars says "i like how u make the fire come out ur muffler" of course hes talking about my car backfiring. so i check all my seals and there all ok so wat i wana know is can anyone tell me wat might be causing this cuz from my understanding backfire is bad

With a rotary backfire/"spitting flames" is normal. Especially if you're doing donuts and staying in the higher revs. Being that you're dumping quite alot of gas in to the combustion chambers.
|
not necessarily. backfire, afaik, is caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust gases being superheated and thus being ignited. a lot of tuned/ported 7's will shoot fire. rx7's already run a bit rich, so it sets up good conditions for this, heh.
to the others that read this, correct me if i'm talking out my ass. |
if u have no cats then thats why dont worry about it and enjoy it it is a RX7 quirk that most people love
|
Nothing to be concerned about. I have no cats o my FC and it shoots flames in the high revs often. I consider it a bonus!
|
Sweet, not cat for me! haha! Aye does the racing beat exhaust system have a cat! or is the presilencer replace the cat or act like a cat?
|
Bah, I have no cats/emissions removed and my 7 won't shoot flames for the life of me. What am I doing wrong!?
;) |
im pretty sure that it replaces the cat i have a corksport so dont quote me on that
^^^remove the airpump or just take the belt off...Block off the ACV and gut your cats or just get a good exhaust system and there you go |

i dont think mine shoots flames, but if I rev it to anything over 4k and let off and keep reving it to that and letting off so it sounds like it is hitting a rev limiter, it will kinda do a little backfire out the exhaust, kinda like a pop, every time I hit the gas to go back up. If I go really high like 5k in a gear and shift into the next and dont get on it at all, it will backfire and sound like a shotgun going off. it.CLICK HERE for video
