back up light switches

back up light switches

does anybody know if there is a difference between the non turbo tranny switch to the turbo one. from what i am seeing on parts listings its the same switch but was wondering if anyone knew for sure

If you are refering to the reverse/5th gear switch it is not the same switch at all. First the n/a's and turbo's have a different thread so they can't even screw into the tranny they're not intended for. Second the 5th gear switch will send the opposit signal to your ecu if it was possible to use the wrong one. I have a n/a with a turbo tranny and the 5th gear switch was sending the wrong signal to my ecu.

they should technicaly be different switches for the 5th gear switch and the back up light switch cause i know theres 2 of them on there one of them looks all weird and long and the other looks like a bolt with a ball on the end

A US-spec 5th gear / reverse switch is just that...one switch. It has 4 wires coming out of it. The other switch you may be refering to is the neutral switch.

Note that on a J-spec transmission, there is no 5th gear switch, so it just just a reverse switch (2 wires instead of 4).
